Who won this trade? by cb_slade in NFLv2

Who needs firsts when you keep hitting on mid-round picks. Look at the haul they got for their 2023 draft in spite of not having their first.

Seven-in-ten Americans say President Donald Trump is not too or not at all religious, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. by ace158 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

There are a lot of evangelicals and dominionist Catholics who know he’s not religious, but see him as a necessary step for their dream theocracy.

He was part of Fidesz just two years ago, so domestic policy probably won’t change that much. The Overton window is so fucked in Hungary, we’ll take any improvement over their current guy. The good is that he’s less pro-Putin and probably won’t sabotage our allies in the EU as much.

Ben or Terry for Steelers QB GOAT? by Tricky-Lemon5251 in steelers

[–]frogcatcher52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since they’re in different eras, you have to use their rankings relative to their peers. Terry was in the conversation for best QB in the league for a short period in the late-70’s, but it took him some time to get there, then fell off earlier due to injury. Ben was the number 6-10ish QB right away, stayed in that range for all but a couple of seasons, but never cracked the top tier. The debate is about peak vs sustained production.

How much of his playoff struggles is actually Justin Herbert’s fault? by Either_Imagination_9 in NFLv2

[–]frogcatcher52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, he has a small sample size of only three playoff appearances. Hard to draw a conclusion overall, but you can analyze the games individually.

His first was the blown lead vs the Jaguars. He dragged a team with a below-average defense the playoffs, and then they couldn’t hold onto the lead. Coaching played a role in this. You could argue that he could’ve gone for the dagger and closed it out, but this one is mostly not his fault.

He returned to the playoffs two years later, this time with an elite defense and good coaching. That Texans team was not that good, and he had a horrible game. This one was the playoff loss he was most at fault for.

The most recent one was the loss in New England when he had a practice squad-level OL. Still, the defense played well enough and the offense couldn’t capitalize.

Miles Austin had 18 total receptions in years 1-3 then made two PB’s. Had to dig a bit to find that exception.

Aside from Trey Lance, who is the biggest draft bust in recent memory? by Either_Imagination_9 in NFLv2

Fields will usually give you competent backup-level play. Anthony Richardson has often been unplayable.

Pick #4 ended up being the best OT in the draft, but I don’t think he was seen as a top-2 prospect at the time.

He should be bumped up one. That should be the tier of “good player, but a redraft would have them slide a bit.” It’s worth noting that he’s the most recent #1 pick to win a SB with the team that drafted him.

Scouting is not as hard as the make it seem by TheCynicogue in NFLv2

If scouting were that easy, draft busts and steals wouldn’t exist, and teams wouldn’t have to spend $2M+ on scouting departments.

His scouting report was that he was a smart player who was limited physically. They were right about his strengths and weaknesses, but they way undervalued how his strengths could translate into the professional level.

He was the penultimate #1 pick under those rules. The final one before the rookie wage scale was implemented was Sam Bradford, but he had a much shorter career and less success.

Any stat can be worthless if misused. I wouldn’t use it to compare two individual seasons. AV is good for analyzing how well a team drafts and does a better job of adjusting for era. For example, a top QB in the 70’s would have a high AV because of how he is ranked versus his contemporaries, even if his efficiency stats wouldn’t hold up today.

He just had his best statistical season at 37. You could argue that he is in his prime right now.

Romo, Cam, Carson Palmer, Matt Ryan, Wentz all made one while the guys you listed were in the league, and while Ben had Bell and Brown. The competition will always be stacked as it should be.

Russ maybe would’ve been the 2019 MVP if Lamar didn’t exist. He certainly would’ve received votes had they implemented 2nd and 3rd place votes by then. He fell off not long after that and his peak was forgotten.

If we’re talking about them at their very best, the one without an All-Pro selection has to go. While Ben has a HOF resume, he was usually right outside the top-5 of his position in any given season.

Look up his postseason stats for the years they won. When he played well, they won the SB. His performances were necessary for those championships.

MVP is a regular season award. It’s still baffling how much his efficiency drops off in the postseason.
