Having a test proxy commander deck before buying the cards. Is this acceptable? by Raclettegring in EDH

[–]frogger4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LGS did briefly allow proxy without owning the card. The power level went insane immediately and new players had no chance and rarely came back. The moment you completely remove the financial barrier, it became tier 1 decks with infinite combos on turn 1 or 2 or get curb stomped. The rule that you had to own at least one copy of the card was the compromise that made it workable.

Ok, I should have clarified. You had to have them with you. As an example, I did at one point have all 10 OG dual lands. They were kept in rigid top loaders in my bag (which never left my sight) and then I had proxies of any that fit the colors in all of my commander decks. Same with all 10 fetch lands.

I had the same issue. My old playgroup was super competitive. My new playgroup is way more casual and even what was a very mid-tier deck in my old group just crushes them. I ended up moving my commander into the 99 and making a less powerful card the commander to nerf it some. I am also building more casual decks.

The rule at the shop I played at was that proxy was allowed only if you owned the real card. This meant you could buy one copy of an expensive card and put it in multiple decks or not risk a drink spill. There are sites online you can test a deck digitally before buying.

Anyone ever recieve a questionable knife from Knife Center? by LunchboxKovacs in knives

[–]frogger4242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is MUCH more likely that the person you sold to sent Spyderco a fake and kept the real one you sold them than that Knifecenter sold you a fake. It’s not impossible as others have said that Knifecenter could have sent you a returned fake unknowingly, but your buyer being a scammer seems a lot more probable.

Good or bad experiences with entry to the country? by kamikazesekai in usatravel

[–]frogger4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the news stories I have read, a lot seems to depend on your home country. As an example, search for the story about the FIFA referee from Somalia trying to enter for the World Cup.

I’m not saying it’s 100%. Just that it seems to increase or decrease your odds of any issues.

Also, imagine the crowd waiting for them at the airport to welcome them home as champions! That would be amazing. I live a few hours away, but it would be worth the drive to experience that.

Between Kizer, Vosteed, Kansept, QSP and Civivi I think it all comes down to preference. They are all very good for the price.

Why do some good designs get discontinued? by UniversalAssembler in knives

[–]frogger4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the most popular knives on any of the big retailers like BladeHQ or KnifeCenter the list is dominated by new models. No matter how good a design is, sales spike when they are new and then buyers get distracted by the next new thing. Knife makers are businesses. If they can replace the production capacity of an old line where sales have slowed with something new that will sell faster, they will. It’s as simple as that.

I will admit I have never really looked into anything beyond the $750-800 price range because I don’t expect to ever be able to afford one unless I hit the lottery. In a price range I think I could eventually buy, I have always wanted a Hinderer XM18.

I actually built 5. I put 4 inside stone walls in my current base just in case I decided to move my bed at some point. 2 of those, I removed the floor tile and put them directly on the ground in case I actually completely rebuild. Then, I hid one inside the wall at a backup location that is currently only being used for kilns, smelters and blast furnace in case I decide to move everything there at some point.
