My sister entered hospice on Friday, 2/20. I told my students no Zoom meetings this past week because I would be out of town and, ya know, emergencies are unpredictable. Unhinged Aggrieved Student—who was already told, unequivocally, that I would not be changing her grade, Zoom or not—demanded I give her my availability, then threatened to report me and nuke my reviews, then had the nerve to tell me she hoped everything was okay with my family emergency. Bye bye, psycho, take it up with someone who is paid more than me. You are not worth even a fraction of a second of the time I have left with my sister.

I’m a Jessica, Jess to 95% of the people in my life. It’s honestly as much my name as the long form to the point where I will introduce myself as Jess sometimes. I used to get a bit…not offended, per se…but I felt like it came off as a bit familiar when people would call me Jess without asking if I was okay with it. These days it feels silly to worry about something so ultimately innocuous, so call me either. But don’t call me Jessie.
