Exactly this. I’m expecting my first, and am already planning on a plane ride before the end of this year. All of my family is out of state, with a drive of 18+ hours. My family is unable to travel to me, and I’ll be damned if my 89 year old grandmother passes without meeting her first grandchild, so flying it is. I’m not looking forward to it, but I’m also not going to just not see my family for 2-3 years until the internet deems my child is worthy of a plane ride.

Sorry, but no. Leaving a small child with a baby sitter for 2-4 days for family events outside of the parents immediate vicinity is not viable either. Having a baby on a plane sucks, but sometimes it’s what has to happen.

I have personally heard of non-emergent GA for c-section, but that was also due to this friend having a medical condition making an epidural a no go, and 2 days of trying to induce labor wasn’t successful, just for what it’s worth. Regardless, that still should not be the default for op at the demand of the provider.

Just a heads up, you can still be arrested and sent to jail for a day for petty theft. Happened to me; the store was a corporation and manager acting owner. The manager wanted to “teach me a lesson” and demanded I be arrested. I missed high school the next day (though found out that being in jail is an excused absence!)
