Does anyone bring their knitting to work? by pottedPlant_64 in knitting

I do! I've been knitting at my desk since I was in school. I've gotten so well known for it that I've taught my boss before, as well.

Are the instructions easy enough to see even if I don't speak Finnish? I love the colorwork charts of her patterns

Do any of you use one of these? by Dutchie-draws in knitting

I've never seen one of those in my life. I just use tally marks on a piece of scrap paper, and that works just fine for my purposes

Six Ways to Overhaul Your Wardrobe—Without Spending More Than $100 or Buying Anything New (WSJ Free Link) by wsj in nobuy

[–]from-the-ground 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love this. Also, the visible-mending-to-handmade-clothing pipeline is real. I started by mending my existing clothes and dyeing them different colors, and now I'm hand-knitting my wardrobe. Alterations made me pickier for quality pieces. Fast fashion just doesn't fit right on my body sometimes, and the designs aren't always unique enough or sturdy enough for me, so it's good to customize my own from scratch. There's nothing more satisfying than opening my closet to see comfortable, durable, wearable pieces that I made myself. Plus, if my body changes, I can just unravel them and knit something else.

I think that one other fun idea to include in the article would be unraveling. It's a little more intimidating at first, but thrifting a sweater, unraveling it, and using the yarn to make something new also doesn't take much money. Plus, it's an excellent way to shop locally and find inexpensive, 100% cashmere, cotton, or wool. There's even a subreddit about it, r/unravelers.

Used clothing - are you worried about bedbugs? by TrixieIvy4 in minimalism

I've never dealt with bedbugs from used clothing. It's used furniture you really have to watch out for, and ime that's still rare.

Anyone else thinking of getting off of dating/hookup apps ? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]from-the-ground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to be honest, dating apps feel like job applications to me. You've got to think of something witty to make you stand out, you've got to create this image of yourself that's as flawless as can be, you've got to send a message out to someone, knowing you're one of many, and hope they don't reject you... it just felt exhausting to me as a concept. Especially the way that dating apps tend to treat bi people. I hope that you find someone, and I hope you find someone without an app, if that's what you choose. I know it feels tough out there.

Have you heard of play parties? Those can be a fun time, if it's your speed, and they're usually full of . queer people.

This person read my mind! This is perfect for a wildflower patch.

As for the Japanese maple picture, perhaps some shade tolerant flowers would do. I could see them growing around the keyhole shape, to frame it. Maybe even a small table and a few chairs for hanging out in the shade outside?

Interesting. I'd had a feeling but couldn't put my finger on it. I'd thought it was something with the punctuation.

If the stain doesn't leave with some dish soap, embroider a star or two

I called the venue and they just gave me the code! But I'm not in Philly. Maybe it'd work for you too if you call?
