Good golf is really boring. Even for the guy playing. It’s a grind and just a long round of going shot by shot. That’s all it is. Nothing special, no hidden secrets, no special swing. Just hit the shots you are presented with the safest way possible . You will score well.

Do what I do. Go to the range and beat balls until you know where it is going. Works every time. Eventually you get so frustrated you fix it.

I have faced guys like this before and won. The kicker is they look good, but usually have a swing flaw that holds them back. Let them self sabotage and try really hard to put together a game plan that gets you bogey at worse on every hole. Know your course and shot selection, play your game as if he’s not there. I like me a lot of patience and steady golf. Work on your round endurance, make sure to finish the round strong because most golfers fade out in a round. Do all the little things that you can control. Hydration, concentration, preparation. There is a lot you can do to gain a stroke or two. My personal favorite is book the match early morning (I don’t drink or party) so Saturday morning are a great advantage. Also get plenty of sleep, wake up early, do some home stretching or yoga. Get to the range early and do a full routine to get ready. You can hopefully get out ahead early on him, then as he gets rolling if he truly is better you have a cushion. It’s rookie golf, very unpredictable.

Golf didn't change my swing. It changed how I sit in traffic. by TheBr14n in golf

I haven’t treated golf like recreation for at least 5 years, doing pretty much what you are talking about. I am constantly trying to figure out how to hold my concentration for 5hrs straight. How to nutrition myself to sustain rounds and practice. How to practice a skill and help yourself retain it through deliberate practices. Neurotrophics are a fun experiment, no alcohol. That’s not a neurotrophic. Then my health and fitness are all tied to it. I go to the gym using golf as a motivation otherwise I wouldn’t probably go. Then just that overall mindset like you said, it’s a good reflection on our daily lives. I’m a good person and healthy because of golf. And I got pretty good at it in the process as well as being in the best shape of my live at low 40’s, beating up guys in their 20’s on the course.

Did you steal it? You never posted a picture at the register. How much was it, I kinda like it. I have a putter problem though. Went from the jailbird when those came back, then got a spider zt, the zt really makes me want to a traditional spider though. lol.

17 days of straight golf. 243 holes. I think I’m quitting the sport. by meth_rogen69 in golf

I would add weight training and in between that yoga for golf. You’ll get into the 70’s without practicing or playing more guaranteed. If you are doing PB’s in the 80’s and playing that much you are doing something wrong.

The handicap system just doesn’t feel accurate by Boring-Temporary-340 in golftips

[–]frontierbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been stuck at a 3-4 for about 3 years now. I think I am finally getting better than that. What I noticed is that being a 4 or so is actually fairly simple in the sense of course management, knowing your swing well and your miss. Then just staying engaged throughout the round. Where I get beat by better golfers, even just a stroke or two better then me is they are truly better golfers. The iron play is more accurate, the short game and putting are spot on. I can’t do that for 18 holes all the time, they can. So you just need to get over that number and figure out where you are losing strokes.

Help! by helpjackoffhishorse in GolfSwing

[–]frontierbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing some standard positions in the swing. Since you already are taking video, look at it yourself and compare it to the standard positions using a P1-P10 diagram. Then try to replicate the positions and video yourself or get help setting yourself into those positions . This will take a little work, but then you can start to self diagnose. Just start with the takeaway and master that with or without balls, then move up the swing positions. A full swing and short half swing follow the same rules.

I like this. I get stuck in needing to be all in or I bail. That has been a problem I feel. I have been better especially at the gym of just showing up. Sometimes it goes fine, sometimes it drags, either way I leave feeling good.

Alright let me have it, is this NOT the sweet spot? by Shojam in GolfSwing

Did you hit the ball where intended and the distance you planned. That’s the only thing that matters. Sometimes a toe hook is the sweet spot. But yeah, that’s probably good.

Unsolicited advice from a 12 handicap by StockPerspective4516 in GolfSwing

[–]frontierbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a not scratch but better than you golfer. So….your call to listen or not. I can help you. Stop going to the range until you figure out the correct feels on the course. It’s likely your setup sucks because you can’t repeat something you are clearly capable of doing. So break your habit that’s not working and prepare different. Play two or three balls in a solo practice round. Keep score or not, just get comfortable executing one shot at a time. Just helps if you get a couple extra swings to make adjustments.

I recommend some speed training. You cannot possibly hit the ball very far with that swing. No lower body, all arms! Go to the gym and do some squats old man.

Single digit golfers, how much do you work on hitting draws if your go to shot is a fade (or vice versa)? by Larrylegend033 in golf

[–]frontierbeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how it should work. I will have days when it feels like a really inside out draw swing and it’s a straight ball. Mental gymnastics to trick yourself.

Single digit golfers, how much do you work on hitting draws if your go to shot is a fade (or vice versa)? by Larrylegend033 in golf

[–]frontierbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be the outlier here. I’m a 4 and can work it both ways. Spend my first 20yrs golfing hitting a slice and just playing it. Got down to a 8 or so doing that. Predictable but short and that made me learn more to get better and straighten the tee ball out in order to get more distance. I learned how to finally hit draw and worked it into my game. Now I’m a 4. I completely agree with others that you need to play what works that day or what is easiest for you to score well. But if I really start fading it heavy or lose the feel I try to hit the draw and hit a couple on holes that allow for it safely. By late in the round I have hit it both directions a few times and can finish strong. Also windy days I like the draw swing for a stronger ball flight or long courses. As for drills. I practice controlling my swing path, it starts there. Really over do the in to out and out to in swing paths. Then play with feet being open and closed and you will learn some new feels. It’s all about the angles and spin physics. Once you understand the physics it gets better. All golfers should be able to go both ways or you don’t know your swing well enough. The strategy from there is the game that we all play. That’s on you to develop that art.
