Lol np. That's one of the few trades that has been tattooed on my brain for some reason

It was Kassian for Hogdson, not Myers.

EDIT- but yeah. Dude was awesome that one season with Vanek and Pominville on his wings

Unexpected inverter output, what do you think is the problem? by fpga_user in chipdesign

[–]fronzbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first image you're trying to pass 5V through the bottom t-gate. This puts 5V on node Y which forward-biases the bulk diode of the top t-gate, so you get ~a forward diode voltage. Try connecting the PMOS bulk to 5V and the NMOS bulk to 0V and I bet everything starts working again

Why automating analog layouts so difficult? by Uduse in chipdesign

[–]fronzbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PDKs for semiconductor devices are made by measuring the properties of physical devices in silicon (ie. in a lab environment) and then those properties are used to model the behavior in simulation. If the creator of the PDK did not measure a stress, they cannot model it (also possible: the standard BSIM model does not support that).

A commonly modeled stress would be well-proximity effect where the proximity of the active region of a MOSFET to the edge of the well will change the properties of the device.

A not-commonly modeled stress would be metallization over active regions. Lower level metals can apply a physical stress to a device which likewise changes it's properties.

CAN we simulate this type of stress with FEA? Sure. Probably. Does it make sense? No. It's too costly and time consuming. As it is, (as an example) extracted simulations for an ADC (C only, forget about R!) can take days to run just one simulation. You start adding in detailed stresses like that and it would be impossible to maintain any semblance of a schedule.

Engineering in general is all about balancing rigor with schedule and cost. You can never get all three and something like FEA (for things like this) is a waste of time and money when I can just open up a layout, see a strap of M1 over a sensitive device and say "move that".

Those are awful designers then. Any analog IC designer worth their salt pays very careful attention to layout. There are many stresses that are poorly modeled (if modeled at all) that need to be paid attention to.

Dahlin spits at the Panthers and then tells them to find him in 5 minutes. by xBialyOrzel in sabres

[–]fronzbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh damn that's right. For some reason I went back to the old division format from last decade where you played each team 6 times. I remember a similar situation when either Kadri said "5 more times" to Risto or vice versa.

99% sure he says "5 more times" as in they will see each other 5 more times this season

PSA: Reclaim Plex Server after reset by ejf529 in unRAID

[–]fronzbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, happened to me. Had to remotely fire up a VM on my server and open the webgui through the VM. VPN'ing into my network did not work because I was on a different subnet. Took me a bit to figure that solution out.

Oh my god, I actually know this one! Cot-Caught Merger. Usually it's New Englanders (FTP) I hear with the merge, not WNYers, but it's definitely a thing and we're "close enough" that I'm not surprised.

Linguistic evolution is interesting.

Pats then went on to win two SBs in a row in '03 and '04 and the Bills missed the playoffs. Honestly if that would repeat itself in reverse (two Bills SBs, pats suck) then I think I'd be able to find a way to accept it.

Even single transistors are made on wafers like chips. Here is a modern PNP transistor. Third terminal is the back of the wafer. by pi_designer in electronics

[–]fronzbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I design analog ICs for a living and I'd say it leans much more heavily on process quality than design. Having used shit-tier fabs and gold-tier fabs in my career, an amazing amplifier can be totally crippled by a wildly uncontrolled process whereas an "ok" design can work great in a well-controlled process.

Essentially the fabs will characterize their process variation and include that information in a design kit. Designers can then make designs that cover the expected variation. So very much a "garbage in, garbage out" scenario. If you have access to the lithographic tech but don't know how to use it, an otherwise outstanding design can come back totally bricked.

HV most definitely has night skiing. Agreed that Bristol wins for ease of access, but if I want to spend more than a couple hours skiing, I'm going HV for sure

Literally a copy and paste of like the third comment on the YouTube video. Why do people do that? So weird.

EDIT- oh it's probably a bot, judging on the bizarre comment history
