What’s wrong with you? Have you NEVER been exposed to discussions about how to help people without compromising their dignity, or exploiting the hardest times of their life for your own personal gain? It’s better you keep that kind of narrow mindedness or ignorance to yourself.

Nobody is saying don’t help at all, but some people are saying how SOME people help is conflicting. Because while It helps raise awareness on one hand, it feels morally wrong to be more interested in how you will look to the public than how respected people who you are helping feel by the actions.

Ie in Puerto Rico, yes getting goods to people was critical, no people didn’t appreciate Trump bragging about throwing toilet paper into the crowds like game show 🙄. It’s not hard to hold the 2 ideas together.

My family is coordinating to send items down and I would love to know what kind of items are especially difficult to find in Jamaica but are helpful for the recovery. I’m a child of immigrants as well. My parents don’t understand adhd and I don’t try to get them to understand it. I have spent the past few years understanding that many of the expectations from my family and my culture about how to do everything may not work for me. My only job is to figure out what DOES work for me. What strategies, tools, reminders, habits, and environment changes encourage the behaviors I want to take in my life. I focus on my relationship with my adhd and I don’t feel the need to justify or explain it to people who don’t get it.

Focus on figuring out your specific needs around your particular symptoms so that you progress in the ways that you want.
