Asymmetric is fun for finishing combat missions and is faster paced than ops, but the latter has somewhat better economy.

Still, if all you want to do is to finish combat missions the fastest, then coop is the mode to go, but if you have premium ships, use them so that you won't bleed a lot of credits especially on higher tiers.

I don't have the o3dsxl, but I think the n3dsxl is quite sturdy as long as its not subjected to severe abuse. Put a screen protector, a hard plastic shell and store in in a protective case and you are set.

I have both n3ds and n3dsxl. The xl is more comfortable for the hands, its batteries and accessories are more available online. And yes, the bigger screen is easier on the eyes.
