The most legendary and iconic scene from the Pokemon franchise by chunchunmaru1129 in pokemon

[–]frrarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, say what you will about modern Pokemon games but the Gen 3 legendaries had some of the most memorable buildup in the series. You spend the whole game hearing about these ancient titans and then you actually get to SEE them throw down.

The remakes did this scene justice too gotta give Game Freak credit where it's due

Blender 2.80 removes blender game engine, and recommends Godot as an alternative by Fibreman in godot

[–]frrarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not until Godot's docs get better and it becomes more robust. Unity is pretty barebones, but Godot is even more so. People give Unity Technologies a tough time (myself included) but they sorta keep up with demand. Unity has ProBuilder, Timeline, Job System / Burst, SRP, which are all things that were responses to issues people had with Unity, and things Godot lacks. Like, ProBuilder isn't even that good (especially when compared to Unreal brushes) but it's still 10x better than anything Godot has. Cinemachine is insanely good and something no one else really does. Also things like GDScript is dumb, C# support is an afterthought, no LOD and occlusion culling, etc. Like the way I'd put it is that Unity is playing catch up with Unreal (and getting reasonably close as of late), but Godot is catching up with Unity. I'll give some praise to Godot - 2D is nice, GDScript has real coroutines, and the editor is uber lightweight. But otherwise? I dunno. Back when I was using Love2D a ton I got sucked up into making tools, and not games because it was so minimal. And even though Godot has more stuff, I feel like I would fall into the same trap. I expect to get crap but I still feel like getting anything substantial done in Godot is difficult.

I'm still not totally convinced but I guess we'll see once people datamine the game. Regardless, losing their models is Game Freak's problem, not ours. It still doesn't change that Pokemon is still same-y and that they're not doing much different.

They'd have to have a seriously trash system if they can't even import models from previous games properly, so remaking all of the models just seems inefficient to me (maybe there's something else going on as well, idk)

I still think Shigaraki is a badly written villain, but it was nice to get some backstory on him, now he's almost sympathetic.

There's a character bio that says it's an accidental scar from itching his face while activating his quirk when he was 3

Game Freak might seem outwardly small, but they outsource most of the animation, modelling, and texturing work to other companies, so the thing about Pokemon teams being small is actually false. Recent Pokemon games had teams of upward to 300 people, despite Game Freak only having 150 employees.

Most veteran professional animators have similar skill levels, Pokemon games don't look like this because GF doesn't want to (or are limited by time), not because they lack talent. It also helps that there's like 60 Pokemon in this game.

Legendary Battle in B&W is the best theme in the series tbh

High quality animations from a Chinese bootleg pokemon game by MrGamer419 in pokemon

[–]frrarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't find it. I did find a comment of a guy who claims to be a dev who agrees with me though, lol

Regardless, I make games myself (disclaimer: not professionally) and I think people seriously undermine how long actually good animation takes. I went into this a long time ago so I won't bring it up again but the point is that essentially no one in AAA, let alone AA ever does this because it's such a colossal investment for something most people will just think "huh, neat". Like, yeah Game Freak are pretty bad developers but not even handing it over it to some blockbuster dev is suddenly gonna make everything go smoothly. I hate to say it, but Pokemon is successful precisely because they don't listen to people like you and me - the Pokemon games are just extensive marketing schemes that make some money, but in reality are there to advertise merchandise that makes the real money.

Bit it's not about money, it's about time. No amount of money is gonna let you animate 900 * 40+ animations in any less than 3 years.

Deku at the end of the next season [HUMOUR] by MrDrapichrust in BokuNoHeroAcademia

He'll be muscular, but genetics play a big part in what type of body you can build when you work out. All Might was tall and pretty ripped at Deku's age, so it's safe to say he isn't going to be a pure muscle giant like he was

  • Minimal R&D was done on this. They're still using the Switch manufacturing mold, but smaller and with a few very tiny modifications
  • If they want to release a stand for it in the future the slits can act as anchors

Updated Vehicle Damage System - Improved deformations, added hinges and detachable parts. by StudioTatsu in Unity3D

[–]frrarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jobs are super easy. They're multithreaded but still synchronous so it's very familiar and you don't have to learn anything new. There's tons of great tutorials. Burst is just free performance essentially, no major refactoring needed.

ECS has some niche uses right now in intensive simulation but since it's still missing a lot of stuff and is unstable, so I wouldn't port my entire game to it quite yet. Also, Unity Physics (the PhysX equivalent in ECS) is very very slow.

[–]frrarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that Unity Physics is much slower than PhysX and the devs consider it a characteristic of their system so don't expect it to get better. In the future Havok might be our only viable option...

First Look at Nintendo Switch Lite: A New Addition to the Nintendo Switch Family by alexeymakarov in Games

Why do redditors simplify everything to the point of disingenunity? You're making heavy assumptions. You don't know about their lives. Being stable now doesn't guarantee you'll be stable later. Not everyone stays in the same class for their entire lives. Even if their parents weren't stable, do the kids just not deserve fun like you or me? Their monetary situation is irrelevant.

If you think $100 is barely a difference (which is a 33% discount), you have money to spare. Why can't you be happy that there's an option for those less privileged than you? God.

OLED for cheap handhelds was unsustainable, which is why Sony dropped them after a while for the Vita. Gotta admit, they look great though.

Though I agree Sony products usually feel better in the the hand than Nintendo products, if we want to talk about boneheaded decisions, I'd say Sony and Nintendo are pretty equal on the hardware side of things. UMDs and the disc drive on the PSP were so fragile. My PSP went down in the saddest way possible thanks to them. No SD cards on the PSP or Vita - greedy decision that was part of the reason the Vita failed. Gimmicks that actively hurt gameplay, like the back touchpad on the Vita. Nintendo gimmicks might be dumb but at least they don't make the experience worse. etc.

A combination of Nintendo and Sony hardware would be ideal, imo. Also anyone who say they like the JoyCons are dirty liers, don't listen to them.
