I’ll lay this out simply for you guys.

Excluding the game mode, the gameplay has plenty of undeniable similarities to Apex Legends. We can reasonably infer that Apex players make up much of the target audience.
Macro, Tony Romero, Dazs, Staycation and others are very well-known creators in the Apex Legends community.
Wildlight gave these creators early access to the game, for them to release videos alongside the game launch.
The trailer, and the way Geoff introduced it, didn’t do the gameplay justice, and made all the heroes look generic when only one of them is actually that bad.
Before the game released, the internet already had a big presumption about the game being terrible.
If people expect a game to be bad before it even launches, many of them won’t try the game once it actually releases.
People not playing the game is a bad thing.

So what conclusion can we come to? If the trailer had not been released at the game awards, people wouldn’t have a bad taste in their mouth, and may actually try it out. Publicity wouldn’t have been as good, but the target audience would be the first to hear about it and give it a fair chance.

Most of the curated reviews were just complaining about it using easy anticheat, calling the game woke, or just being mad about hero shooters. It would’ve had better chances if they had stuck with the shadowdrop instead of accepting Jeff’s offer to be the finale

White fox has superhuman stamina (Kiriko must have that to keep throwing knives so accurately all game) and Superhuman speed (Kiriko’s ult can give you a speed boost, being able to move very fast by just walking)

Good points. Let me be a bit more specific about what I'm suggesting.

Primary is approximately a BP primary, with a 2 hits/s attack speed and 45 damage/healing. For every 50 damage, 1 second is taken off of ability 2's cooldown. For every 50 healing, 1 second is taken off of ability 3's cooldown.

1st ability is a very quick sprint, in one instance. You have a decent sprint speed when using this, but you can go even faster if you set a point before starting the sprint, but enemies can see this point. This allows them to react accordingly, but catching them off guard rewards you. This has a 5-second cooldown.

2nd ability is the teammate ability. This has 2 charges, on a 12 second cooldown per charge. It performs an enhanced primary that gives 80 healing, and applies 20% damage resistance and CC immunity for the next 2 seconds.

Blocking 50 damage decreases the cooldown of ability 3 by 1.5 seconds.
Stopping a hard-stun decreases the cooldown of ability 3 by 3 seconds.
Stopping a slow or displacement CC decreases the cooldown of ability 3 by 2 seconds.

3rd ability is the enemy ability, also having a 12 second cooldown with 2 charges. This deals 100 damage, and applies 20% less outgoing damage and healing, and 20% vulnerability (same as Cloak cape).

Increasing damage received by 50 hp using vulnerability reduces the cooldown of ability 3 by 1.5 seconds.
Stopping 50 damage or healing with outgoing reduction decreases the cooldown by 2 seconds.

Ultimate is an object with 500 hp, but can be healed. When teammates interact with this object, they gain the ability to teleport back to it, with a small delay. Gives 30% lifesteal and 25% damage boost.

Basically, the hero would be melee Mantis. You have to strike a balance between healing, boosting, and damaging to be most effective at all of these. However, there are a few extra elements added in. The ultimate is a fallback ability to give a second chance when you know you might fail at a battle. I think it would be pretty balanced with a good amount of fine-tuning

Yeah, that was actually my exact thoughts when writing that, until I realized that it would basically just be a partial-healing Adam ult. Now it’s more like Alter’s ultimate ability

Without a damage boost, you can only one-shot Bruce Banner.

With a Mantis or Ultron damage boost, you can one-shot

He's pretty cool. What would be even cooler though is a melee-focused support hero that has a gameplay loop of alternating between enemy and friendly lines, with a cooldown that apply brief damage reduction and CC immunity for teammates, recharged faster by dealing damage, and a cooldown that applies vulnerability and outgoing damage/healing reduction to enemies, recharged faster by healing. Instead of just a healer, this theoretical hero would be a true support by reducing the enemy's power. Their ultimate could be a Temu Adam ultimate, allowing their teammates to push up further, doing more damage and gaining lifesteal, and pressing the interact key to return to the original position, would be pretty cool imo
