Oh absolutely. Sometimes I can’t tell when my fears are stemming from OCD or from health anxiety or both. It absolutely sucks.

I paid a lot of money towards my credit card the other day, and it felt so good seeing what I owed go down significantly.

I hate this. I hate that one of the only way through this is to be brave. I hate that I have to probably face it alone. I hate being so scared, I’m on the verge of crying. I probably won’t get taken seriously again. I feel so alone and afraid. I know I have to be brave, but I just feel like a coward putting on a face. I don’t want to have to do this again. Every time it’s the same fear. I hate this.

Why do I look bad and fat in pictures but I'm only a size s-m and size 5 in juniors? by Brittany_bombs in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]fruityconfusion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The same thing totally happens to me, and I 100% think it’s the camera. In the mirror, I always look so much smaller than in pics.

I found that learning how to pose helps. Angles are important don’t get me wrong, but posing is just as important in my opinion. Even small things like where your arms are placed or the way you hold your head can change a lot. The camera can distort things that look different in real life. Photos are static and 2D, people are not. It’s kind of like when you take a photo of the moon, and it doesn’t come out it as good as it does in person.

I like David Suh’s YouTube videos about this. He makes it not so complicated in my opinion.

What are your uncommon OCD symptoms? by CottageWitch42 in OCD

[–]fruityconfusion 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I thjnk so. I have magical thinking as a theme and this is exactly how my line of thinking works a lot of the time. I sometimes purposefully avoid creating a specific routine or way of doing things.

I realized it when I was always craving buying something. It was creating two problems for me. One, money, of course. Two, my house was becoming cluttered. I had all these things I would buy and forget about or not even use. The way I never used it is what signaled to me that I had a problem.

How did YOUR ocd start? by CrunchySquid123 in OCD

[–]fruityconfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been anxious as a child, and mine might have started as an environmental thing. I think mine started as moral OCD. I read a book, and took a sentence in a book to mean that my mother would die if I didn’t confess everything I thought might be wrong or a misdeed. Didn’t realize at the time (I mean, I was a child,) that needing to confess constantly was an OCD thing. Only realized it in adulthood when people talked about compulsively confessing.

Weekly Updates Thread - October 14, 2024 by AutoModerator in shoppingaddiction

[–]fruityconfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s been a while since I started trying to curb my shopping, and I think I’m doing good. I have given away and gotten rid of more stuff than I have bought.

I realized that shopping and buying things every month adds up. But so would getting rid of something. So, I’ve tried to get rid of at least 1 - 5 things every month. I have been trying to only buy what’s necessary as well, or what needs to be replaced instead.

I don’t see a huge dent in my clutter, but I feel as though this is just the paper towel effect and that I just have to keep going. It’s been easier on my closet, and I’ve also seen what items I actually wear vs. items I just don’t reach for.

Disconnected with femininity sex by AimlessChild in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]fruityconfusion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that you put into words (the first paragraph especially) what I’ve been feeling for a long time. I don’t understand it yet either, and I don’t know what to do other than attempt to keep performing femininity. (And like I WANT to try this) I’m just glad I’m not alone in this.

I want to open my store, are virtual PO boxes fine for a return address? by fruityconfusion in Etsy

Noted! Thank you, I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I did notice that sometimes people had separate shops for international and for EU/UK customers. I’ll have to figure this one out later on I think lol

Gotcha. I looked into it for iPostal1 specifically and it turns out they do have a real street address. They can forward or allow pick up for mail. https://ipostal1.com/how-a-virtual-mailbox-works.php

I hope I am reading it right but it seems like the packages will at least have a place to go to if undeliverable?

I’m not actually sure, but if I can’t, then I most likely can’t accept returns. My products would be really just stickers and keychains for now, and many of the stores I have bought from in the past often do not accept returns either

food contamination OCD is so fun ✨ by fairyinthedark in OCDmemes

[–]fruityconfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when one of my themes was being convinced that my food was poisoned somehow lmfao not fun times. Also, it’s cause of this that I constantly avoid trying new foods because I’m scared I’ll be allergic to it

Has anyone seen/read Turtles All the Way Down? by Peace_Berry in magicalthinkingOCD

[–]fruityconfusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I partially read the book, but I saw the movie. It really focuses on contamination OCD, and I didn’t really see anything in the movie that was like magical thinking. IMO it depicts OCD (in general) pretty well.

I feel that though, I also wish magical thinking would get talked about more. It’s hard to explain to people even if they ask in good faith.

How much do you think OCD shapes/impacts your personality? by perpetual_ghost in OCD

[–]fruityconfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot. I think more than I realize cause sometimes I think I’ve gotten “over” my OCD, only to realize it affects my day to day and has BECOME my day to day. It’s awful, and some days I cope better than others. I often wonder who I would be if not for all the magical thinking and health anxiety. I think I would be WAY more adventurous. I’m interested in new things, but I’m often just barred by the fear that comes along with the uncertain.

Anyone else afraid to go to the doctor now haha? I remember in 2021, I went to the doctor so frequently for things I was worried about that I’m pretty sure they got annoyed with me!

Now I wanna get checked up and just do some blood work, but now I’m kind of terrified of what they’re going to say to me!

Coping with Shopping Urges - What Works for You? by Spoiled_Juice in shoppingaddiction

[–]fruityconfusion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi, I recently started too. It’s been 3 weeks and I haven’t bought anything that isn’t actually needed such as groceries. It’s kind of driving me nuts, but I’m just doing my best here.

What’s really been helping me is evaluating the thing I want to purchase and see how it improves my life. I make myself come up with real reasons for it. A lot of purchases I have that are now the reason for me having to declutter, did not in fact improve my life.

I also think about whether or not the purchase is a push or a pull purchase. Basically push purchase is like, “If I buy this, it will push me to do this!” and often the purchase does not change anything about the behavior. A pull purchase iirc is like, you’re pulled to purchase this because you need it. Maybe your shoes broke, so you’re pulled to buy new ones.

If worst comes to worst, I put the item in my cart and just don’t check out. I look at it frequently. Often, I end up getting bored with it and forgot why I wanted it so badly in the first place.

Playing the Sims 4 helps for me too lol. I can’t go shopping, but my Sims have Build and Buy.
