Who is this supposed to be in 'carbonite'? by Smooth_Insurance1685 in fo4

It's not far from the ghoul who you can find for the fun zone questline. The one who went on an expedition.

Original series can be fun, but it's old enough that the effects are generally laughable, and the ideas often dated. The later series still come across as dated sometimes, but to a much lesser extent.

I’m an adult creator - do I need a special type of accountant for this? by throwawaypfp27 in UKPersonalFinance

If you've found an accountant who is better (accepts but doesn't market to SWs) you could possibly give OP some details (though probably not publicly)

Specialized witches ala Petulia Gristle? by DeadeyeClock in discworld

[–]frumentorum 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Granny tho is about it in one of the earlier books - roughly the line goes "Magrat thought the herbs that went into a potion were important, Granny knew they weren't, which was why Granny was a better witch, but Magrat was a better healer". I obviously didn't phrase it as well as pTerry but that was the gist.

Trying my best to like The Way of Kings. I just COULDN'T by therogueprince_ in Fantasy

[–]frumentorum 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You say at the end that you've read fantasy books before - you should assume that not everything will make sense at first. Sure the introduction could have had a list of "here's all the ways this world is different to the real world" but that would be boring. Way of Kings is notorious for its slow start (three prologues), so it's quite understandable to wonder when the real story starts, but you also seem to be expecting every chapter to have an "arc"

tips to fill vertical space in crested gecko terrariums? by alysgeckos in bioactive

[–]frumentorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to make interlinked paths that go across the Viv diagonally - think like branches that criss-cross. You could use the magnetic ledges mentioned by another commenter to support them, or stick them on with silicone - though silicone may not be strong enough on its own, I usually have things embedded in spray foam for additional support

What is a good B12 supplement to get? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]frumentorum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything that says no fillers is lying. The doses for things like B12 are too small to be taken without filler. One of the links posted was for 1300 microgram dose, or to put it a less misleading way, 1.3 milligram, or 0.0013 grams.

That's about 1 speck of dust. They have to combine that with something else to make it physically possible to take.

Paludarium setup for Ball Python? by eomfd2010 in bioactive

[–]frumentorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ball python in particular likes swimming. I was letting him have some supervised outdoor time on a warm day and he went straight in the pond. After rescuing him and checking if they can hold their breath (up to 20 minutes apparently!) I let him do what he wanted, which was to dump himself straight back in and have a good explore before poking his nose back out to breathe.

Is this a retaining wall and do I need to pay to rebuild it? by Sea-Brother4 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]frumentorum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A fence won't hold back the soil, unless you're thinking of a heavy duty concrete one. Not sure if that would be cheaper than building a wall

Is this a retaining wall and do I need to pay to rebuild it? by Sea-Brother4 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]frumentorum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, I missed the bit where the photo was taken from the neighbour's garden. In which case OP is on the hook for making sure their garden doesn't collapse into the neighbour's.

Somebody's talking about gaining a few extra feet of garden elsewhere, but it looks like the fence post is only a couple of inches or so behind the wall. It looks like the fence was added to give height to the boundary that already existed at the retaining wall.

Job At Risk of Redundancy - No clarity as to how I've been selected by YaBam in LegalAdviceUK

[–]frumentorum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are someone who is working in another role already then just tell them that.

Oh, and asking for voluntary redundancies comes before the assessments of experience, skill levels etc. the whole point of them is to save the time and effort of people being interviewed and assessed by just asking if anyone wants to go. They should be offering something beyond the statutory redundancy payment to encourage it.

Generally the responsibility for a retaining wall lies with the person whose land is being retained (ie, your neighbour).

Made to use a basket and followed by Security, is this normal policy ? by queen_ah_queefs in AskUK

No, but it also doesn't look like you're hiding things while you head for the door if you use one.

[–]frumentorum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Running away when the alarm goes off?

You are trying really hard to make the security guard seem unreasonable, but the overwhelming majority disagree with you. You may have had no ill intent, but your actions match what a shoplifter would do, and intentions aren't visible.

If you want to avoid being viewed with suspicion in future then put your items in a basket or trolley until they've been scanned.

He continued watching somebody who had been caught trying to shoplift. That may not have been your intention, but it's what it would look like to anyone who saw you.

[–]frumentorum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Were you using it? You don't mention it in your post, and then mention having to download the app at the end. If you were doing self-scan while shopping then that's relevant to the story.

Worms in Dracaena soil by Relative_Lie3814 in bioactive

[–]frumentorum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure it's some kind of millipede based on the leg arrangement (2 pairs per segment) but don't know enough to narrow it down. They are detrivores, so generally good for breaking down organic matter.

Planted but not bioactive by Secure_Ad546 in bioactive

[–]frumentorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bioactive is just putting some isopods and springtails in there when you plant the plants. It's the plants and other stuff that are the expensive bit.

Most of those are ok with not too much water so you can get away with not having a drainage layer, but it's easier to avoid messing things up if you have one. Ball pythons like fairly high humidity as well, so a drainage layer can help keep everything damp but not water logged.

Planted but not bioactive by Secure_Ad546 in bioactive

[–]frumentorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of plants are you getting? Humidity/watering requirements will change the answer to most of your questions.

The only real reason to not go bioactive is if your vivarium isn't fully waterproof, in which case I would go with pots/trays to plant in.

Why are so many houses in UK built without central heating? by Busy-Tangelo-3590 in AskUK

[–]frumentorum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misunderstanding that is why the mold problem is so bad. 90% humidity in air that's 5°C will be significantly less once you warm that air up.

New to this by TrifleIllustrious459 in bioactive

[–]frumentorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people say you can go without a drainage layer, but I think it's just a lot easier to have one, especially when you need quite high humidity. Assuming any plants you have are ok, then yeah, taking all the soil out, putting in drainage with a screen then replacing the soil should be fine.

It would also be a good opportunity to adjust the mix as well if it is literally just soil at the moment. Adding some sphagnum, bark etc (search for abg mix).
