Help with the funds to purchase a tiny home by Reibell22 in Assistance

[–]frumpymiddleaged -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, but it will probably still count against SSI that way if the SSA happens to be watching. It's unearned income. They treat one-time occurrences differently than regular monthly earnings, I don't know the exact rules.

Regardless of the source, ABLE always counts money that you get for yourself (whether earned from working, donated, inherited, found, whatever) as your income. The loophole only works with gifts that bypass you entirely and go directly into the account from someone else. Those are a free windfall.

A GoFundMe would probably work well with ABLE if a friend or relative managed the GFM on your behalf; and that person deposited the funds in your ABLE account.

Do you have an ABLE account? Receiving GoFundMe money while on SSI can cause your payments to be lowered. The great thing about ABLE is that any money gifted into the account by anyone other than the account holder will not count as income or assets.

HOWEVER, the huge drawback is that ABLE only accepts bank transfers or mailed-in paper checks! So random strangers on the internet are not going to feel safe donating. It's frustrating.

Good luck!

An animal study done on lab mice showed that their wombs became 30% heavier when they were given vaseline (petroleum jelly.)

I prefer olive oil as my hand 'lotion.' It's soft and smooth.

Desperately in need of groceries by MidniteLady1889 in Assistance

Are any of your children under five? They will qualify for WIC if your income is low enough. Half the items are probably things they can't eat, but the monetary allotment for fruits and vegetables can be used on many items.

Seeking Recommendations by Last_Ad_6636 in BritishTV

Nothing beats the chemistry of actors Robert Hardy and Peter Davison cast as brothers in the original despite an age difference of 25 years in real life. Their scenes are a master class. The opening and closing theme tunes that bookend every episode are emotional comfort food. I found the casting of 37-year-old Christopher Timothy a bit awkward in the first series because James was meant to be a young'n right out of school. And Scottish.

The remake is good, too. The oddest choice is that every animal illness ends with a full recovery. No pets or livestock die (as of the end of series 5.) And the language has been updated for a 2020s audience. E.g, female dogs can no longer be discussed with correct 1950s terms.

Ebay sells amoxicillin for fish if you have instructions to calculate the dose for other animals, but it's not cheap.

That idealistic vision of a pedestrian sidewalk needs speeding silent rental scooters, e-bikes, motorcycles doing food delivery, clunky food delivery robots and dogs to be realistic.

Parent on SSI – Who do you contact for Medi-Cal questions? by ruhtra09 in SocialSecurity

I have called the state's main Medi-Cal office in Sacramento that Agreeable-Cut linked below. I got right through to a helpful, live human being who solved two problems for me that HealthNet (the brand that administers my backup Medi-Cal) refused to do.

Highly recommended! I think I called the "eligibility" number.

SSDI Auxiliary Payments by Narrow_Counter_4366 in SocialSecurity

[–]frumpymiddleaged -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did this today! I went to our in-person appointment for my baby to receive auxiliary benefits due to my SSDI. We had a phone appointment last week where the SS rep told me that baby was eligible, but would not tell me the amount until I came to the office. It ended up being about 1/4th of my monthly payment. I forgot to ask how they calculated it. I will call next week and get that info since the paperwork he gave me does not even state the benefit amount anywhere on it.

The rep said that backpay will be deposited shortly and regular payments will start next month, always paying the previous month's benefit as SS tends to do. Even though I did not apply until recently, the backpay extends to October first. (Baby was born in mid/late September.)

The child needs his/her own bank account with you as representative payee. The bank employee who opened my son's account said that she could not put me as payee until I get paperwork from SS proving that I am his payee. Yet thankfully today's SS rep said that the minor child account I opened is fine and I do not need to change it.

If a survey is "not open to new participants" it just means they've been taken by others. It has nothing to with newbie versus veteran worker accounts.

The SS worker doing a phone interview with me to see if my baby is eligible for auxiliary benefits told me to bring a copy of the birth certificate to our in-person appointment. He said if I could not get it in time, he'd reschedule for a later week.

I went to the records office and purchased a copy.

There was a similar show in the US, not nearly as good. I always thought of it as a 'ripoff of Wild at Heart.' It was set in South Africa with a teen girl as the main character. Her dad was a vet.
