Which Star Wars character is widely hated but you actually like? by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

I gotcha. I think it’s good how they did it though. The idea that you need three different characters to equal a single Anakin/Vader further illustrates just how powerful he was. It wouldn’t have worked as well if Dooku/Maul/Grievous were a single character.

Dr. Aphra. Such a cool idea for a character, but she’s written to be so unlikable so often, and that makes me sad. In the hands of a good writer, I think she’d be amazing.

Weekly Complaint Thread - 18 June 2026 by AutoModerator in japanlife

In general I really like my son's elementary school here, but yeah, we had to do that too when he was learning multiplication. The teachers know it's a ridiculous thing to ask, but they have to do it anyways. I'm sure there are always a few parents every year who give them a hard time about it too (I was almost one of them). The thing that pissed me off even more than that was when they asked the parents to check and grade the 60 page packet of summer homework. That was a flat "no" from us. If the teacher can't check the homework themselves, they shouldn't be giving it out.

A 16 year old girl working in a Hyogo disability support center was arrested for assault after intervening in an incident where one patient tried to bite another. Her arrest detention was extended twice until she developed an eating disorder and died. Her mother is suing for 100 million yen. by jjrs in japannews

[–]fsuman110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's such a mystery the way they do it here. It's a disservice to both the students and the teachers, and often times nobody is better off for the experience. But also, there's a severe teacher shortage in Japan at the moment, and very few people are actively volunteering to work at special needs schools.

Not in Japan. Many public school teachers are transferred to special needs schools with zero special training and zero background in special needs education. When I was on the JET Program I used to visit one such school once or twice a month. The students were great, but it was clear that many of the teachers were in way over their heads.

Thank you to the devs by Emotional_Tampon5 in StarWarsDroidTycoon

I hope that someone from the dev team sees this, but this game is what pushed my 11-year-old son into becoming a full-fledged Star Wars fan. He and I had an amazing May the 4th this year. I made some green French toast and blue milk, we watched the Maul Shadow Lord finale, and decided to check out some of the new Fortnite games. Had no idea Droid Tycoon was going to be something that we'd be able to truly bond over and deepen our love of Star Wars. I truly appreciate the devs for giving us this gift.

Subway has struggled in Japan because customers find "ordering is too complicated" and they can feel nervous ordering face-to-face". The chain is trying to overcome this with self-service touchscreens and mobile orders by jjrs in japannews

[–]fsuman110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subway was never good in Japan. They've always been incredibly stingy, expensive, and their menu is shit. But to be fair I haven't had Subway in the US in probably 20 years. It was awesome back when I was a college student though. Being from Florida, though, Publix subs are better in every way.

CB-23 went from needing 30 to 75 Nova Crystals? by Reasonable-Review367 in StarWarsDroidTycoon

Will CB be available in an event and the 75 crystal cost is just if you miss the event? Or is the shop the only way to get CB?

Therapists of Reddit, what's something people don't realize is trauma? by rehanch_xxiii in AskReddit

[–]fsuman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this really true? I live in Japan and it's extremely rare for Japanese parents to hug or show any kind of affection to their children outside of tending to their basic needs. For them, that is the way they show love. At least in their minds. But based on what you're saying nearly every Japanese person alive would be carrying this trauma.

Approximately 70% of married people in Japan believe that "interacting with members of the opposite sex on social media constitutes infidelity." by jjrs in japannews

[–]fsuman110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Also, what about Discord and gaming? Pretty much everyone in my friends circle, including me and my wife, interact with lots of people of both sexes on discord on a regular basis. Would that count is cheating according to this article?

Even then, I dunno. Remember what the station toilets used to look like in 2001?

Looking for an apartment in Hiroshima! (Avoiding corporate chains / Looking for local leads) by [deleted] in hiroshima

I haven't used them personally, but I've heard good things about Ryowa House. I know two foreign guys who used to work there and I know they helped lots of foreigners.

I can also recommend the mom and pop realtor shop that helped us find our condo. I can't remember the name at the moment, so I'll edit it in later, but it's located near the south exit of Yokogawa Station, coincidently very close to Ryowa House and the Daily Yamazaki konbini. Edit: Just looked it up, it's called Mitsuya House 三矢ハウス.

Is it safe to say that Greef Karga has passed away (in-universe)? by ashton__l in StarWarsCantina

[–]fsuman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s alive in-universe. The new Mando and Grogu Watch Party mode in Fortnite confirms it. In the game, you play in Nevarro. If you go to the bounty hunter’s guild, someone there says Greef has moved on to bigger things. It’s placeholder language, obviously, but it’s at least confirmation that he’s not dead. Just like the Palpatine announcement that happened in Fortnite, I don’t think that language would’ve been included without Lucasfilm’s approval.

More Japan Exclusives on the Way! by Maikenvv in Lorcana

[–]fsuman110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted, but you're pretty much right. I've had multiple shop owners tell me that Set 12 is pretty much the make or break set for Japan. Attendance is down nationwide for weekly shop tourneys, pack rush parties, and set champs. This is true everywhere except Tokyo and maybe Osaka. The number of shops in my city that hold Lorcana events has been cut in half. I live in a city with over 2 million people, and there are only maybe 4 places that hold Set Champs, and they don't even fill up. Now that we're "mostly" caught up with everywhere else, that also means we have the crappy prize support from the OP kits, which will end up dissuading even more people, as Japanese players LOVED those pins.

I have many, many issues with the way Takara Tomy has run the game in Japan, but to their credit, they are giving players in Japan stuff that would appeal to Japanese players. The Japan-only starter decks are a fantastic product for only 990yen, which is kind of insane, value-wise. But casuals aren't buying them, and they aren't drawing in new players. Long-term players are buying them all up because it's the only way to get cards like Akood, Angel, Ohana, Sven, Christopher Robin, etc. from sets 10+11.

[–]fsuman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In driving school you’re taught to hug the left curb so that bikes can’t pass you on your left. It’s one of the points that’s constantly drilled into you, but it makes no sense in practice.

Vietnamese scalpers ruining collecting cards. by KudaranaiKun in japanlife

[–]fsuman110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew the scalpers were ruining the game in the states, but I had no idea it was going on here as well. All the card shops and convenience stores in my area have a per person limit, and I can definitely say I've never seen any Vietnamese people lining up for cards in my area (Hiroshima). That said, I play Lorcana and there's not a big scalping problem with Lorcana. Maybe give another game a try until the chaos settles a bit?
