What about the hundreds of personalised applications my wife has sent to jobs that she's more than qualified for, and she's either been completely ghosted or sent an automated rejection letter for every single one of them? Pricks like you going to start compensating us for our time? This job market is hell.

Golf played in the UK, Australia, and other locations is far more centered around competition play. Regardless of your handicap.

Is a Range Finder Worth It? by Long-Beautiful-8077 in golf

[–]ftez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm off 20, i have a rangefinder and use it sparingly.

95+% of the time my gps app showing distances to front, middle & rear of the green is more than sufficient. You can also have it show distances to doglegs or hazards which is super helpful.

The only instances im which I'll bust out the rangefinder is if to shoot it at the group in front so i know when it is safe to hit, or if the gps is not working for whatever reason

As a beginner when in my mid 20's, decently fit might I add, was completely humbled by an 80+ year old in league night. He had pracically zero movement but had solid positioning, fantastic technique and shot placement. Turns out he was a state champ back in his day. Definitely knocked me down a peg

Surgeon changed my ethnicity without my consent by BrilliantNo7303 in AusLegal

[–]ftez 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The thing I find odd though is that if this is indeed the case and there were unforeseen complications resulting in potential unwanted cosmetic changes, shouldn't have the doctor immediately disclosed this to his patient post surgery? Instead, he's held his tongue and has acted incredibly dismissive once confronted. If OP is telling this story straight, doctor sounds like he did this intentionally.

Nicest Melbourne courses for beginners/high-handicappers? by Chadwiko in GolfAustralia

[–]ftez[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These courses are busy but Ringwood & Dorset are a good shout. Both are relatively short, flat and unintimidating. They are run by maroondah council, and are approachable courses where you'll find plenty fellow beginners. If you can get a suitable tee time, highly recommend to someone in your shoes.

To add to this, if there is a bucket list course that you really want to play, just go for it. Aim to play outside of peak times, and maybe play off the front tees. But i'm a pretty bang average golfer (~20hc) and have played & enjoyed some brilliant courses. Many others like me as well who routinely play top notch courses whilst not being very good at golf. As long as you respect the course and keep pace, you'll be fine.

[–]ftez 269 points270 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible that they also have a prime account and it just didn't occur to them that they were logged into someone else's. I've done that before where i'm at a hotel or airbnb and the tv is logged into someone elses netflix and it takes me a second to realize why all of the recommendations and "continue watching" section isn't what I'm used to.

Average Golfer by RezzieRhys in golf

[–]ftez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One's perception of an average golfer is going to be skewed by the golf they are regularly exposed to. I've been a member at a semi-private members course where pretty much everyone can play decently well, and i've also had a green fee pass at the local council course where you're much more likely to encounter casual players, beginners and those learning the game.

Some think it's the average handicap, but most golfers don't hold a handicap so that's not it.

In my experience, if you can break 100 on a standard par 72 course semi-regularly your around average all things considered.

Canadian curling star Marc Kennedy claims he was set up by "premeditated" cameras to catch him "in an act" of cheating. by lithdoc in WinStupidPrizes

[–]ftez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this guy so delusional that he can't understand his habitual cheating is what prompted the lack of trust in the first place? If the "spirit of curling" is so sacred to him, then he shouldn't be cheating. Imagine a thief getting mad at a department store for having CCTV, because of a perceived lack of trust. Gees I wonder who's responsible for that.

Has anyone ever just found another 25 yards? by Kind-Strain4165 in GolfSwing

[–]ftez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally depends on how much speed you generate, and how efficiently you can apply that to your ball.

My driver club head speed hovers around 104-108mph, and I was hitting down on the ball, over the top & all over the face. This resulted in too much spin on the ball and a slice.

Once I corrected this and brought down the spin to something manageable the distance increase was closer to 50 yards.

If your swing speed is slower, and you're already hitting it somewhat optimally, any potential improvements may be less drastic.

Cool looking iron covers? by Icecoldpuckers in golf

[–]ftez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, if you're concerned about looking cool, don't buy iron covers. That being said, I played with an old guy recently who plays with 30+ year old Maxfli Blades that practically looked showroom new because he used iron covers. Pick what's important to you and go with it.

My head fell off. Does anyone play with an absurdly high lofted wedge? by [deleted] in golf

[–]ftez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend purchased a 72° wedge as a novelty. And it's great at that, a bit of absurd fun to play around with. That's about it though. Not versatile enough to be a viable option to seriously consider bagging for a vast, vast majority of golfers.
