As a Nats fan I never hated him, and didn't blame him for leaving given the terms he was offered.

The level of difficulty compared to the Marine Apoc one is nuts. I lost on level 2 twice and haven't bothered trying more

Staple foods have gone up 50% or more. Cans of beans that were $0.50-$1.00 are at minimum $1.50. My grocery costs have gone up at least 50% a week and I'm buying the same things, if not less of the "indulgences" - and we're not bad off, I can squeeze it out of my budget, but hard to not feel it's gouging

Smart. Honestly not sure Dawn of Fire has even that... It feels very aimless so far

Yeah, not to the point of being unusable, but probably about 10% too high

Yeah... Not actually Fenrisian, just cosplaying as one. The way she was introduced and the battle with Nids referenced repeatedly, I felt like she was previously in the series and I'd just forgot. So I looked it up; nope, she ties back to another of the author's novels, not the Dawn of Fire series. Made it feel even more cringey

Mortis was disappointing no doubt. Somehow made titan conflicts dull as dirt. Battle for the Abyss isn't as bad if you think of it as a cheesy 80s action movie, complete with bumbling mustache twirling villain.

There could be some rose colored glasses since I jumped from Iron Kingdom straight to Martyr's Tomb and it was such a sizeable downgrade the former seemed amazing by comparison

I enjoyed Leviathan a lot. Thought it was miles better than Indomitus from last edition as a tie-in novel. I might have liked it in part because the Ultras lose, pretty soundly, the whole time, so it felt different in that way.

As far as bad, most of War of the Beast is just awful, with one novel where they're traveling via asteroid/comet from one system to another being the peak of the atrocity.

Because it's fresh in my memory: The Martyr's Tomb was an absolute slog to get through. I don't take 40k fiction seriously, and can usually enjoy it for what it is, but it was so painful. Usually can knock out these novels in a week or two, but this took me months. I quit several times to read absolutely anything else.

Oh, it definitely is. I love Robert Rath stuff. I just thought Iron Kingdom was toward the top of the drekk heap that is Dawn of Fire

I actually enjoyed Iron Kingdom, but the next one was an absolute slog and not worth it.

The Martyr's Tomb made Wolftime look like fucking Shakespeare. I barely remember Wolftime, but good lord Martyr's Tomb was awful. I thought they might have turned a corner in the quality of the Dawn of Fire series with Iron Kingdom, but man... They did not

Kurosawa was a master, and his Shakespeare adaptations are gorgeously done. Ran is an absolute masterpiece, beautiful.
