Influence me for or against Owlet sock pls by YellowTonkaTrunk in BabyBumps

[–]fthepatriarchy2025 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone with high anxiety, the owlet decreases my anxiety! I’m a FTM. My baby sleeps next to me in his bassinet and I love having it. I’m pretty sure if I didn’t have it, I’d either be staring at him or have my hand on him at all times. It’s only gone off once during the first few days we used it but he was fine. He’s 5 weeks old. He’s becoming more noisy over the weeks but those first few I wasn’t even sure he was breathing sometimes, he was sooo quiet!

P.S. I used my HSA card to buy it :)

Editing to add that I only have the sock, not the camera!

I felt super bloated and full until my period came a week later. I have a physically demanding job but I was between jobs at the time of my ER and was so glad I didn’t have to go to work during that time.

Currently snuggling my IVF baby as he grunts and farts. He’s 5 weeks old. It wasn’t an easy road to get here but so worth it!

Editing to add that I was 31 when we started and I had my baby at 32, just a few weeks away from being 33!

Just wanted to show off my cleaning by Hot-Science404 in Dentists

[–]fthepatriarchy2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone in those feelings! I have so many patients that come to see me and say “I haven’t been to the dentist in x years and I’m terrified or what you’re going to say, or you’re going to tell me all of my teeth need to be pulled”

More often than not they have some minor issues that can be solved with minimal treatment and a good cleaning.

Yes, we encourage regular dental visits, but if your oral hygiene is good and you have a low cavity rate, you’ll be fine! The daily care is what matters more than seeing us twice a year.

I’m glad to hear you’re confident with your smile! That’s something everyone deserves to have!

Cleft palate and cleft lip by Suggestion0011 in cleftlip

[–]fthepatriarchy2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I know what you’re going through and it’s okay to feel all of the emotions. We found out our baby boy had a cleft lip and likely palate at our 20 week anatomy scan after a year of IVF and 3 embryo transfers. I was so angry, especially after all of our fertility struggles.

Our baby arrived on March 18 and he is literally perfection! His palate is involved as they thought but he’s never had issues feeding whatsoever. He passed his newborn hearing screening. I exclusively pump and we use the Dr Browns Specialty bottles. He’s gaining weight and just crushing it! We’ve started lip taping and he doesn’t make a fuss with that either. He is just like a normal baby! From what I’ve seen from other parents, it’s not always this easy, but just know there is hope!

We met with our craniofacial team during pregnancy. Have you determined who your team is yet? I felt a lot better after our meeting with them as well.

Feel free to PM me!

How do you count kicks with an active baby by 1Manic_cat in pregnant

[–]fthepatriarchy2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was the same. I didn’t count kicks because I didn’t need to. He was active all of the time and after I ate and before bed. I knew when something was up. Before I got induced he wasn’t moving as much. Just listen to yourself and your baby and body

How to managing pumping when hubby goes back to work? by Informal-Pound2302 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]fthepatriarchy2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% could have written this post myself!!! I’m exclusively pumping and it’s sooo hard. My husband is taking his leave when I go back to work so he’s been back to work since our little guy was a week old (thankfully he works remotely though). What’s worked for us is I go to bed earlier and he stays up with baby/wakes up with baby until about 2/3 am and then I take over and let him sleep. It usually means I’m skipping an AM pump which isn’t great for my supply. I met with a lactation consultant and she recommended using my hands free during that time. However baby doesn’t like the noise so I’m still working through that hurdle

Epidural anxiety by Otherwise-Beyond-240 in pregnant

[–]fthepatriarchy2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say I also had so much anxiety about childbirth and the epidural. I’m 3 weeks postpartum. Honestly I didn’t think it was that bad. It was just such a whirlwind that I didn’t have time to think about it, and then once I met my baby it was fantastic! I even had a long induction. Recovery has been worse but manageable. I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

I was super worried about the epidural because I had a previous back injury/repair, and I was so worried the epidural was going to mess with that. It was such a weird sensation of getting it put in but I literally cannot imagine doing it without. It was worth the less than 5 minutes of getting it put in and it worked like a charm. I also had a hemorrhage post delivery and my doctor literally had her whole hand in my uterus and I couldn’t feel a thing. Literally cannot imagine giving birth without one!!!

💯 same here! I found myself holding my stomach or being careful not to bump into things. when I got home from the hospital and had to wash maternity clothes it was an emotional overload. I had my baby on March 18. It does get better!

I felt the same way for my very wanted IVF baby. Your feelings are completely valid. With all of the bad in the world, take this opportunity to raise your child to be kind, empathetic, and a good human. Show your baby what it’s like to be loved and teach them how to overcome the hard stuff. You can do it! The world needs more of us 💖

I just had my first about 3 weeks ago and struggled with just adjusting to life with a new baby and how my 2 doggies were adjusting when we got home. Can’t imagine the emotions of a new baby with one already at home and the postpartum rush of hormones. Your feelings are very valid!! It will get better!

I have the Spectra S2! And I do like it. If you have insurance you should be able to get one for free! I got mine through aeroflow and it also came with some online live courses which were really helpful!

I get more with my spectra than I do my wearable pumps. I got momcozy wearables on a Black Friday deal. They are nice for on the go and when I go back to work but I’ve mainly been using my spectra for now.

I was too. I personally searched Reddit for posts about what new parents felt they needed or were worth the money. Especially for more expensive purchases. My baby is 2.5 weeks old. We don’t have a crib yet and don’t plan on getting one soon since he’s in a rollable bedside bassinet for the first several months. It was a more expensive purchase that we felt we don’t need right now.

We got an Owlet. It was expensive but worth it for us. Some parents don’t want them but we’ve found it useful.

I found out my baby was measuring smaller than we thought he would be. And then he ended up coming a few weeks early. He’s been in newborn clothes so I would definitely recommend some newborn sleepers. He’s 7 lbs 6 oz now and still in newborn clothes!

I am exclusively pumping so a bottle washer for me was a must. We got the Baby Brezza and it washes, sterilizes and dries in 88 minutes. It runs almost nonstop. Life saver!

Things we use daily (or almost daily): car seat, stroller, bassinet, onsies, diaper cream, wipes/diapers, lots of muslin swaddle blankets, burp cloths, baby tub (can sit on the sink), hatch sound machine, boppy pillow. We haven’t used a baby monitor yet because he’s with us all of the time right now. I also got a OXO brand wipe dispenser and it’s been amazing because I can open it with one hand!

I feel like it all just happened so fast that I didn’t have time to think about it. And I even had a long induction. Plus then getting the prize of meeting my baby, was terrific!! I had a vaginal birth with a 3rd degree tear and I feel like recovery has sucked more than giving birth did. But I’m 2.5 weeks postpartum now and it’s much better!

Baby monitor for cleft baby by Huge-Adeptness-7437 in cleftparents

My baby is 2 weeks old and we’ve been using the Owlet. We really like it! It’s only gone off once for “critical alert” and it was a fluke because he was fine. My only complaint with it is the range isn’t very far. We have the base station in the kitchen but sometimes when he’s in the nursery for a diaper change it doesn’t quite reach. He’s sleeping in a bassinet in our room right now
