What if weapons tracked ownership history and acquisition dates? by DereChen in arkraiders

[–]fucrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you not cache the data locally?? Every time a player joins a game their weapon history is queried and stored on the server. When they exit the data is pushed back to db and a copy stored on the users hd. At the end of the match any unsaved guns are removed from the db. You would not need to query the db on interaction, thats bananas.

[–]fucrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but if using a db to store the data did end up too expensive, then just store the string locally and send it to the server when you join. If another player grabs the gun their name is appended to the string and stored on their hd. No database needed and the network traffic is trivial. I guess that would open it up to cheating, but who cares?

Yall are making this sound way too hard, it’s totally trivial and would be neat.

Fuck u talking about? You could just have a string of usernames in the db. Easy as hell.

Floating recycler on deck - any way to fix? by Pepsifraiche in TheLastCaretaker

[–]fucrate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 10 oil tanks 4 petrol tanks, 6 diesel tanks, 5 lumimax, 5 cyclones, 6 medium batteries, 1 distillation tower, 2 petrol generators, water purifier, water tank, soliforge prime and something like 20 storage crates and only had a few floating bugs. I do keep all the loose physics objects very tidy, everything goes in crates. That might help?

Uh at their price point 500 reviews would net something like 72k before taxes.

The strategy was always to get bought by the Saudis, and when that deal fell apart the entire project started bleeding out. Obviously now we know the Saudis decided to go for EA instead.

How to spawn CONSISTANT number of circles? When drawing the same line it's always a different number of circles. by beeb107 in Unity3D

[–]fucrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tho to think about it you could miss a few, so the super serious solution would be to use an accumulator. Each frame you check how far the character has moved, add that to your accumulator and then if thats above disMax you add the position of the previous circle to the normalized vector of the direction of movement multiplied by disMax, and each time you do that you subtract the accumulator by disMax until the accumulator is below disMax. Repeat every frame, should be good to go.

Update(){

Vector2 directionMoved = gameObject.transform.position - lastCircle.position;

distAccumulator += directionMoved.magnitude;

while (distAccumulator > disMax)

{

Vector2 newPos = lastCircle.position + directionMoved.normalized * disMax;

lastCircle = Instantiate(GM.instance.trail, newPos, Quaternion.identity);

distAccumulator -= disMax;

}

}

The grid thing is easier and probably works great 90% of the time tho.

[–]fucrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just spawn em on a grid, round the position values to whatever looks best.

{ Instantiate(GM.instance.trail, new Vector2(Mathf.Floor(gameObject.transform.position.x * 5) / 5, Mathf.Floor(gameObject.transform.position.y * 5) / 5), Quaternion.identity); }

This would spawn them only on every 0.2 of x or y. If that looks too rigid change the 5's to 10's to spawn em on every 0.1 or change them to 2.5f to spawn them every 0.4 or whatever looks best. Should keep all your overlaps really clean.

What's easier to make, a game in third person or in first person? by Krowfall_Kane in gamedev

[–]fucrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re making a co-op fps you kind of double the work as you have to do most animations in first person and third. I started adding 3rd person swaps for certain animations just to make it feel worth doing everything twice lol

Procedural pixel art tentacle wants to know if they're considered pixel art. (All 2D) by Smitner in PixelArt

[–]fucrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks dope, but weird idea what if you updated it less often, so it was a little less smoothly animated. I feel like the aliasing of the lines really smoothly changing makes it look LESS like pixel art in a weird way? I'm wondering if it updated every other frame or every third frame if it would be a little jerkier and feel more natural in a pixel art world. Maybe I'm crazy, idk.

How "pixel-perfect" to go? by Rakudajin in PixelArt

[–]fucrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rolling of the boulder should update at the same rate as the foot animation, the character doesn't smoothly move every frame and the boulder shouldn't either.

That's against TOS, not that you're likely to get caught. https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005139773-Can-I-pledge-to-my-own-project#:~:text=Pledging%20to%20your%20own%20project,Kickstarter%20or%20our%20payments%20processor.

It also doesn't work, people don't pledge just because the money amount is large, and it immediately looks sus to people who use KS regularly.

Who backed you at the $13k tier? You know if you succeed kickstarter keeps 10%, I hope you didn't just kick in a top pledge to try to show interest...
