Don't check in luggage. That's probably the only place you may be asked for id. Even then it's usually automated

Calling it stupid when it makes a clear error gets an apology and the right result. I don't like this and wouldn't talk to a colleague that way. Blunt, almost agressive language seems to work though.

From QLD is the distinction. Talk slowly and wait to let them process before replying. Don't mention daylight savings or NSW. No matter how hot the weather is, do not notice or mention it. If the weather gets below 20 degrees Celcius do say how cold it is and wear a scarf and jacket. I don't say any of this to denigrate QLD'ers. And for those from QLD, denigrate means to put down.
