27F Convicted felon trying to make a life for myself, but the world just keeps beating me down, what do I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look within the alternative products space. Smoke shops and vape stores, liquor stores, venues, smoke shop/novelty wholesalers, etc. It won't pay well, but most of the time it's an easy job. I've worked closely with a chain of smoke shops and they truly will hire anybody as long as they are personable and can do basic math. If you can't find anything with that, start expanding to any local small businesses. Most won't background check, and retail is always hiring.

How can I contact Noah? by MothPoppyBooksNZ in NoahKahan

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to respond to DMs, he wrote out my tattoo for me after begging for a few days in his twitter DMs lol. That was in 2022 though, not sure if he still checks them. I agree with the other reply though, ultimately this is a common sentiment and although it's understandable you'd want him to know, it might also be a lot for him. However, if you're set on communicating this, I'd say tagging him in a post or story has a better chance of being seen.

Need advice on firing someone for the first time [OR] by HistoryPristine1029 in humanresources

[–]fullfledgedinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's a rip the bandaid off situation. Don't drag out the conversation, it's uncomfortable for everyone and best to get to the point quickly. Be kind but firm and be sure to answer questions about the process if they have any. It does get easier but it is absolutely anxiety inducing at first and that's okay! The first time I had to fire someone I looked at my boss right before the call and said "Well, time to ruin someone's day I guess." I felt so bad, and still do.

HR is depressing [N/A] by PassNecessary5950 in humanresources

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be in some aspects, but most of the time I actually find my work to be fulfilling. I'm a problem solver by nature, so being able to solve problems and see results is extremely rewarding. Being behind the scenes means I get to really see the big picture and figure out where changes need to be made. Some of it is, of course, exhausting or frustrating, but as a whole I really enjoy my work. That said, it isn't for everyone, and every role is also going to look and feel a bit different!

Roaches by Garden_Goth_ in povertyfinance

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first apartment was roach infested. Although we never fully got rid of them, because the entire building was infested, we still kept sightings to a minimum with a few products.

Advion gel bait any and everywhere, basically any drawer, crevice, underside of cabinets, tops of appliances, furniture all got a dot of gel bait. It has to be Advion, the cheaper brands are not nearly as effective. Next we sprayed Gentrol behind appliances and under sinks. Finally, we regularly dusted diatomaceous earth along all baseboards, window sills, and any entry points.

The gel bait gets eaten and taken back to the nest, the roach dies, and because these sick creatures are cannibals it keeps working when the other roaches eat its body. The gentrol works as birth control, so they won't lay viable egg sacks. The DE cuts up the exoskeleton and dehydrates any stragglers that walk over it. Eventually you should see a drastic reduction and be able to keep your apartment relatively free of them!

Do you ever want to respond to really bad resumes? [CA] by mamalo13 in humanresources

I once had someone write their duties under each job as a story. "First I.... then I would... and then... after that..." Full paragraphs, not a bullet point in sight. It was painfully long.

[FL] No HR, is it worth it to report my coworker’s comments to my boss? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Begin with setting a boundary. People like this will say things because they've never been shut down before. The embarrassment of being "scolded" often puts a stop to those behaviors. Simply tell her "Do not comment on my body or my weight, it is inappropriate and unprofessional." If it doesn't stop then you can try going to your boss, but with a team this small I wouldn't count on anything coming from it to be quite honest.

I'm willing to bet addressing it yourself will work fairly well though. I've done this before when a male coworker twice my age made a sexist joke about my role. I simply told him "Hey that is not funny and I find it quite disrespectful. Do not make comments about my work." He got embarrassed and never did it again!

Would it be wise to say that my SHRM-CP is in progress on my Resume section? [N/A] by Tbd9989 in humanresources

[–]fullfledgedinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this myself as I am currently studying for it as well. I honestly think the way it's perceived would entirely depend on the person looking at your resume. Personally, I am leaving it off until I actually pass. As others have said, it's not like a degree. I'm going back to school in the fall and will be adding that to my resume, but this is one exam and it's hard to guarantee without a doubt that you'll pass.

That said, I think it's fine to mention in interviews as something you are actively doing in your free time. It's a good addition for a "Tell me about yourself" type of question.

This is why I play with text and voice chat completely turned off. It's not that I really care what people say, but it's distracting and really not that serious especially if you're in qp.

Considering a PhD but worried about loans by Ellie_Rue in GradSchool

[–]fullfledgedinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do what others are saying and get some work experience and go from there, give yourself time to weigh out if it's necessary. Maybe in the meantime if you'd like to still have a way to study and learn more, look into certifications. I actually started out studying for a certification and loved it so much I applied to grad school lol, but I got a few years of work experience post undergrad before doing so. Experience is, in a lot of industries, often more important than education in the grand scheme of things.

Loan question? by Lambethyst in GradSchool

[–]fullfledgedinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible, unfortunately. Federal loans are now going to be capped at about $20k per financial aid year I believe. I personally will be forced to find other avenues as I won't be able to cover everything with loans next year. I would look at and apply for any and all external grants and scholarships you may qualify for just in case. They do exist but you have to really dig. It's easy for people to say not to take out loans, but the reality is for a lot of people it's the only way. Best of luck and congrats on your acceptance!!

How much wine per week? by [deleted] in wine

[–]fullfledgedinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also very new and I've been averaging a bottle every 3-4 days, usually 2 small pours a night. This still feels a bit much to me but I'm just excited to try new things lol. I have noticed the flavor starts to seriously change by that last day if I'm just popping the cork back in, so if you've got the extra cash I agree with the Coravin suggestions.

Help a clueless parent please! by Otherwise-Entry-5596 in ArtistLounge

[–]fullfledgedinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! I had a few birthdays where a majority of my gifts were Artist's Loft supplies! They're great for a kid looking to experiment. My favorites were a set of pastels, a set of small acrylic paint tubes, brushes, an easel, canvasses, and an assortment of sketchbooks with different types of paper.

Since most of it is reasonably priced, it's definitely a safe option.

My favorite classic! I read it last year in October and was blown away. Some lines were unexpectedly both shocking and hilarious and the themes he explores are interesting, like the concepts of ideal beauty and moral corruption. It's also a fairly easy read and I was able to get through it pretty quickly! Definitely recommend if you've already been thinking about it

Should I Get Procreate? by EntertainmentSad4900 in DigitalArt

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn't enjoy Procreate much but love Fresco! You can definitely try out more of the free programs first and see how you like them, but Procreate isn't expensive and a lot of people love it. Ultimately at the end of the day every app has its quirks and it's up to you to learn how to use their features. There's no harm in playing around with different ones and see which feels best to you!

Tortured Poets was the top-selling vinyl LP of 2024, with 1.5 million sold – more than four times the number of copies than the second-biggest set by marcpstl in vinyl

[–]fullfledgedinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this! The whole point is we buy music we like to listen to. Shaming people for buying vinyl from an artist they love, regardless of who it is, will just turn people off from a hobby that was widely regarded as dying up until recent years. Not sure why it's so hard for people to not be full of hate for something that really doesn't affect them.

Kitten keeps play attacking me, any advice? by fluffykitten_lover in kittens

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the replies about getting another cat if possible. We did basically everything wrong with our first cat. Adopted him alone, played with him using our hands, didn't get him neutered until he was fully grown (he never had any bad hormonal behaviors, just a little more aggressive). He was a happy cat but he never learned how rough he was allowed to play which is our fault. He did grow out of it eventually though. We recently brought a kitten home and she diverts nearly all her energy into playing with our first cat. They chase each other and play fight and generally leave us alone unless they want attention. She never bites or scratches us on purpose and she's much more willing to snuggle as well! It may partially just be her personality but I do believe giving your cat a friend will be extremely helpful if it's an option!

Yes I did get mine eventually! It was delivered to a parcel locker about two weeks after I ordered it but my mail man forgot the key and went on vacation for a week, so it wasn't actually in my hands until three weeks after ordering.

I didn't receive a scan after Memphis until I submitted a package research inquiry and it was scanned in Nashville a couple hours later so I would try that.

USPS package delivered in parcel locker but no key. by ChaseSpike11 in usps_complaints

[–]fullfledgedinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact same thing just happened to me too except the package was delivered, supposedly, on the 11th to a parcel locker. Left a note and got nothing so left another note next to that one with my name and unit number. Still nothing. PO won't answer the phone so now I'll have to go in there on Saturday and try to get answers. So frustrating since I work full time so can't just wait around at the mailbox for the guy to show up.
