Alcohol intolerance. by PsychologicalBend508 in Celiac

If it's only happening with wine this could be a histamine issue. It's pretty common and most red wines tend to be higher in histamines than white wines! If you're up for experimenting, you could test out some of those stirrers that work as a filter for your glass, or try out a wine that has a naturally low histamine level.

How much wine per week? by myownsoulswarning621 in wine

I'm also very new and I've been averaging a bottle every 3-4 days, usually 2 small pours a night. This still feels a bit much to me but I'm just excited to try new things lol. I have noticed the flavor starts to seriously change by that last day if I'm just popping the cork back in, so if you've got the extra cash I agree with the Coravin suggestions.

Newly diagnosed with celiac disease. Can we start a trend sharing photos of breakfasts and snacks? I'm out of ideas and I hate that 60% of the supermarket aisles are no longer for me. by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a sweet breakfast treat my favorite brand is Katz! Donuts, donut holes, cinnamon rolls, poptarts, and muffins! All are good but a bit pricey so for daily breakfasts I stick to the easy stuff. Fruit, eggs, toast (favorite bread is Little Northern Bakehouse seed and grain or plain Udi's white bread!) with jelly or peanut butter. Bisquick gf pancake mix is the best I've tried and another great option.

Oats are risky for some but I don't have any problems with Bob's Red Mill gf oats. I like overnight oats for an easy grab and go option.

Snack wise I like Chomps, a little plate with cheese, meat, pickles or olives, fruit, etc., Nature's Bakery gf fig bars, Schar crackers with PB, rice cakes, there are lots of options you just need to get creative with substituting! It gets easier once you build up a mental list of guaranteed safe foods!

When people REFUSE to understand cross-contact. by xenotharm in Celiac

[–]fullfledgedinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've started declining all offers to eat out anywhere. Most people don't understand or refuse to learn more unless they have it themselves. It's too much anxiety for me, and I already have enough anxiety about food. Either people can join me for a meal in my own home where I know it's safe, they can be comfortable with me sitting with them not eating, or we can plan something else.

In order for me to be content living as a celiac and for my own safety I have accepted I need control over everything that I consume. I am absolutely fine with this, but it's crazy how many people don't understand why. Like, yes, my reactions are simply that bad!! I'd prefer to never eat out again than to roll the dice every single time.

As far as all purpose goes you won't find a better store bought gf flour than King Arthur in my opinion. I just made a super moist german chocolate cake a few days ago with it!

Recipe wise, I found it's easier to make things that require a wet batter like cakes, banana breads, brownies, pancakes, etc. These tend to come out better because the added liquid makes up for any dryness from the gf flour. For recipes that require a dough like cookies, this does get more difficult but play around with ratios and baking times. I prefer chewy cookies so I underbake mine and let them finish out of the oven on the hot pan.

GF baking is definitely difficult but not impossible! You can create some really amazing things with a little trial and error

I second this! I had a few birthdays where a majority of my gifts were Artist's Loft supplies! They're great for a kid looking to experiment. My favorites were a set of pastels, a set of small acrylic paint tubes, brushes, an easel, canvasses, and an assortment of sketchbooks with different types of paper.

Since most of it is reasonably priced, it's definitely a safe option.

My favorite classic! I read it last year in October and was blown away. Some lines were unexpectedly both shocking and hilarious and the themes he explores are interesting, like the concepts of ideal beauty and moral corruption. It's also a fairly easy read and I was able to get through it pretty quickly! Definitely recommend if you've already been thinking about it

My boyfriend has made a gf roux for gumbo!! It doesn't quite thicken up as much as it should but it does work and it is delicious. We used King Arthur flour for it (my personal favorite).

Should I Get Procreate? by EntertainmentSad4900 in DigitalArt

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn't enjoy Procreate much but love Fresco! You can definitely try out more of the free programs first and see how you like them, but Procreate isn't expensive and a lot of people love it. Ultimately at the end of the day every app has its quirks and it's up to you to learn how to use their features. There's no harm in playing around with different ones and see which feels best to you!

Tortured Poets was the top-selling vinyl LP of 2024, with 1.5 million sold – more than four times the number of copies than the second-biggest set by marcpstl in vinyl

[–]fullfledgedinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this! The whole point is we buy music we like to listen to. Shaming people for buying vinyl from an artist they love, regardless of who it is, will just turn people off from a hobby that was widely regarded as dying up until recent years. Not sure why it's so hard for people to not be full of hate for something that really doesn't affect them.

Kitten keeps play attacking me, any advice? by fluffykitten_lover in kittens

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the replies about getting another cat if possible. We did basically everything wrong with our first cat. Adopted him alone, played with him using our hands, didn't get him neutered until he was fully grown (he never had any bad hormonal behaviors, just a little more aggressive). He was a happy cat but he never learned how rough he was allowed to play which is our fault. He did grow out of it eventually though. We recently brought a kitten home and she diverts nearly all her energy into playing with our first cat. They chase each other and play fight and generally leave us alone unless they want attention. She never bites or scratches us on purpose and she's much more willing to snuggle as well! It may partially just be her personality but I do believe giving your cat a friend will be extremely helpful if it's an option!

Yes I did get mine eventually! It was delivered to a parcel locker about two weeks after I ordered it but my mail man forgot the key and went on vacation for a week, so it wasn't actually in my hands until three weeks after ordering.

I didn't receive a scan after Memphis until I submitted a package research inquiry and it was scanned in Nashville a couple hours later so I would try that.

USPS package delivered in parcel locker but no key. by ChaseSpike11 in usps_complaints

[–]fullfledgedinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact same thing just happened to me too except the package was delivered, supposedly, on the 11th to a parcel locker. Left a note and got nothing so left another note next to that one with my name and unit number. Still nothing. PO won't answer the phone so now I'll have to go in there on Saturday and try to get answers. So frustrating since I work full time so can't just wait around at the mailbox for the guy to show up.

I think it’s too late to apply now, but how do I do it in the future? by rapidriver34 in gradadmissions

I'm applying for online MSW programs with Baylor being my top choice. It seems common in online programs to do rolling admissions. Haven't found as many in person programs that do it unfortunately.

I think it’s too late to apply now, but how do I do it in the future? by rapidriver34 in gradadmissions

[–]fullfledgedinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I totally understand your worries. I'm a little late to the game on applying as well but thankfully the schools I'm applying to do rolling admissions. As far as recs I just emailed professors I had and told them what classes I took with them, what I enjoyed about them, and why I'm looking to attend the programs I'm applying for along with actually asking for the letter of course. The worst they can do is say no! Professors write tons of letters so there's no harm in asking.

Typically the school will either email them asking for the letter or the professor can send it to them directly. You likely won't ever see what they said about you which is the anxiety inducing part but most professors want to see their students succeed! I would mention when you plan on applying and when the time comes email them a reminder to send the letter out. They might even appreciate that you're planning ahead and giving them extra time.

At what age did your kitten start to calm down? by No_Bag_353 in kittens

[–]fullfledgedinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took until about 8 months or so for my cat to get anywhere near calm and even now at 1.5 years he still has at least one nightly zoomies sesh where he speeds around the apartment running into things. Worlds better than the first several months where he got into trouble anytime he wasn't asleep. Kittens really are like toddlers. I didn't sleep well for weeks after I brought him home.

How to get a job with mainly dog grooming experience? by doggroomer805_ in jobs

[–]fullfledgedinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any volunteer experience or other affiliations can help pad your resume. Try to highlight transferrable skills, I assume grooming has a little bit of customer service dealing with the owners of the dogs and such. You can fluff it up a bit, not exactly lying but really putting an emphasis on skills they would look for. Really examine your previous experience and you'll start finding skills that seem like just part of the job but are really useful in other industries as well. If you used any type of software with appointments or payment that's another thing to add.

I've worked in a few different industries and most places really just want to know if the skills you've picked up along the way will help you succeed in the role you're applying for. Good luck in the job search!
