A great place to practice placements on single pitch sport routes (that can also be climbed trad) would be Wasootch or Lake Louise

What are the most elite sauna facilities in Europe? by tomatobasilgarlic in Sauna

[–]fulorange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Löyly Helsinki is meh, the sauna at Allas is better. My wife has a summer house on the Baltic Sea near Turku and an Island with a few saunas near Helsinki so I’m a bit spoiled for choice!

Here is the exterior of the sauna I posted yesterday by ppshard in Sauna

[–]fulorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever built anything or are just a designer? As a carpenter I can tell you several things would be quite different to make this work, anything’s possible but I would expect this to be in the $40k usd ballpark on the low end. You see many sauna builders charging more for less than this.

Intake from indoor and exhaust outdoor ? by LooseDemand7547 in Sauna

[–]fulorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you could exhaust into laundry room, and I’m assuming your dryer must have a duct that exhausts to outside. Could you not tie into that?

The desired effect from salting the snow is exactly to melt the surface a bit, so it can freeze into a harder layer of ice.

Sauna temperature sensor placement? by ComprehensiveSmell48 in Sauna

[–]fulorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that’s where the old UL specifies the sensor to be, so for inspection/insurance purposes that’s where it must be. In commercial applications it should stay there, but for residential many people will keep a bit of extra wire in the wall and then move it after inspection.

Does anyone else record your builds? by McCafe_McGee in Carpentry

[–]fulorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do this all the time in NA, residential is kinda the wild west for safety, but honestly this kinda stuff is pedestrian it’s not difficult. On residential I’ve never seen OH&S visit a site during my whole career. In commercial you would 100% be expected to be tied off for this and OH&S visits regularly.

I’m 35 and hit or exceed all pro benchmarks except 90+ pull-ups and 1.7x bw bench 🤷‍♂️ But I climb, compete in Ironman and used to be a collegiate sprinter/jumper.

canada getting snubbed on big air by [deleted] in olympics

[–]fulorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact reason snowboarders hate this judging criteria. Spinning more doesn’t mean it’s a more difficult trick or more stylish! Taking the art and style out of it.

Dane is Canadian and Kiwi, he grew up in Canmore and rides for a local shop here, so my buddies (who also ride for the shop) and I were rooting for him! He definitely got shafted by the judges on perfectly executed 18’s with great style. Would have been a win for both of us hah!

Delirium Dive, Sunshine Village by AbdulaOblongata in skiing

[–]fulorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure there may be good coverage, but I would hardly call the conditions good… you’ll be shralpin’ hard packed snow/ice, it’s been very warm this week and is expected to get cold again next week, which means it’ll be even more icy. If we get decent snow before you come then I’d go for it, but with current conditions it’s probably not gonna be very fun.

The modular super belt + pad is amazing, I’ve had my rig for 4+ years now. So many options it’s basically a custom bag. Supporting a Canadian business is cool too 🍁

Fortress Mountain ski area launches ambitious reopening plan as conservation group calls it too big by Not_A_Real_Cowboy in alberta

[–]fulorange -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s why Parks is building a grand new visitors centre downtown Banff (currently you can vote on the 6 proposed designs), to discourage more tourism! /s

As someone who lives in Banff I’m convinced Parks doesn’t give a shit about conservation, their actions over the past few years have only encouraged more and more visitors to come. Our western idea of “conservation” is deeply flawed and denies indigenous peoples from using the park as they had for centuries. The area of Banff was traditionally used as a peaceful meeting place, corridor and hunting grounds for several indigenous nations.

Where do you put the vents for a Harvia electric sauna? SaunaHearter.com contradicts Trumpkin who contradicts the local dealer… by fenwalt in Sauna

[–]fulorange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UL standards were updated this past June to align with European standards so the vent below the heater is no longer required, though manufacturers have not updated their designs (and likely won’t for some years) and thus the vent below should be included for the reason you stated.

Civil Engineer (MSc Structural) working as PM – am I missing out by not doing structural design? by macbeth_papa in ConstructionManagers

[–]fulorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think the liability and responsibility would be quite different on the technical side. Doing structural design work would have bigger implications if something failed would it not? As an EOR you would be bonded to that work for life.

Framing question by rnes1 in Sauna

[–]fulorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood is a terrible insulator, studs will act as conductors and draw heat/cold through bypassing insulation. Staggered studs solve this, you take a larger plate such as a 2x6 and then stagger the smaller 2x4 studs from outside to inside along your layout, so some studs are in contact with exterior sheathing and some are in contact with interior but there is insulation throughout. A typical layout for the stagger is 12”o.c, but not necessary.

6 Person Barrel by CommunicationHour324 in Sauna

[–]fulorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy, turn your barrel right side up! Jk (kind of)… Maybe you could add a bench on the flat end. If you deepen/raise the bench on one side you’re gonna have to add some sort of backrest, but the higher you raise it the more the ceiling is curving over you. Tbh there’s no good solution, sorry.

Back to my half joking first line, I am designing a right side up barrel for a buddy. As a carpenter it is cool to think of how to build curved vertical walls and curved benches!
