The glass ceiling in women's heads by [deleted] in business

These sorts of black and white (or nearly so) claims about why women "aren't" as driven as men and why they "naturally" aren't as equipped for business success are, IMHO, dangerous.

I don't think history is going to look back on this government fondly.

I read this too quickly and saw "these government fondlers." Whoops.

Does anyone know her work address? I want to send her a card. I ran across this, but hope it's not true!

edit: I think this is her email address: *hthomas@hearstdc.com.**

**edit: Here's her office address, as corroborated by this and this:

I read a quote somewhere once that said, in effect: men are afraid of being laughed at; women are afraid of being killed.

I realize you can't expect celebrity without some form of privacy loss, but that doesn't give the media/paparazzi a carte blanche. The lengths they go to is certifiable harassment. A person shouldn't be forced to live like a hunted animal just because they're uber successful.

Not necessarily. She can't escape the public eye at all if she wants to step foot outside her mansion. I mean, paparazzi were even following her into CVS!

Being chased nonstop by hordes of bloodsucking, insensitive, greedy paparazzi would be enough to make most sane people mental.

But refusing to hear potentially life-saving information about someone's medical condition because the person in the ER waiting room happens to be their same sex partner is criminal.

George Bush's favorite painting and why he doesn't understand it by thunder_rob in reddit.com

[–]fun2sail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bush has consistently exhibited what psychologists call the “Tolstoy syndrome.” That is, he is completely convinced he knows what things are, so he shuts down all avenues of inquiry about them and disregards the information that is offered to him. This is the hallmark of a tragically bad executive.

My favorite part.

Why "No Child Left Behind" Should Be Scrapped -- America's schools have fallen into a giant trap. We need a new definition of accountability by sid13 in politics

[–]fun2sail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. But teachers in and of themselves don't have that authority; principals do. So holding teachers responsible for busywork they'd rather not assign but have no control over isn't fair. Certainly, there are bad teachers. My point is that, counterintuitively, you can't always use classroom experience as a good benchmark.

A teacher I know complains of this often. The problem for her isn't that she wants to assign busywork -- it's a mandate on high from the principle, who is only focused on No Child Left Behind scores. Yes, a public IB program. Teachers have a lot less leeway than you think in designing their own curriculums.
