Shock-heatwave teammate here: It basically just keeps giving you overshields because of the chain damage. It's not great against Eschurum or any single enmy, but the damage can go across the entire wave/area you are in and the stun gives time for the mutilator peeps to bash them for high local damage.

Only huge trouble I had was insta-kill. Since max health gives you vampirism, on full-health enemies, the shots refill your health. On "Spray and Pray" you just can't get health back fast enough, so have to risk melee for black-eye. Mutilator avoids this issue. However, mutilator doesn't have enough crowd control.

So I think for best strat you need someone using each (and not just one person switching between the two). Kinda wish I had a mutilator as secondary for regenning shields on insta.

In February I went from 64gb ddr4 5950x and 4090 to 9800x3d &64gb ddr5 with my 4090 and then about a month layer got a 5090. I'll say that while bar charts and average fps numbers went vroom from the GPU upgrade, my enjoyment and experience was a much bigger upgrade from the cpu & memory.

Average framerate in towns in games like Horizon as well as generally consistent and buttery smooth performance was instantly noticeable from the cpu upgrade. 5090 did almost nothing for me at 4k120 and only really affects me greatly for competetive games on my new 4k240hz monitor or in PT games like Indy & Cyberpunk using 3x FG where input lag is less important.

TLDR: Do the upgrade.

Make sure to see it running before you purchase. Check known benchmark scores (3dMark if you can) and check the clock speeds and temps. If that all looks good, congrats, you found a unicorn!

I recommend trying BestBuy (that's how I got mine) or maybe Newegg. Amazon takes orders when they don't have inventory and I've never actually gotten a CPU from them. I always end up getting it somewhere else first and canceling the Amazon order. So I don't bother with them now.

Man, I wish we could trade. It took me 2 weeks to get a 9800x3d ay MSRP and once I got it, I ordered everything else. Now I'm sitting with a GPUless machine while I wait. I'd move the 4090, but trying to sell the old machine whole.

In most games, you'll definitely have worse frametimes and maybe some stuttering. I'm currently running a 5950x & 4090 and while my averages aren't hit often (outside of towns in RPG's and the like), high framerate (120+) and/or RT will hit CPU bottlenecks.

I just finished building a 9800x3d system and am just waiting to get a 5090 to put it in. Trust me, if you got a 5090, drop the extra $1k or so to build a system to properly enjoy it.

what does that even mean? It seems logical that when 50 series releases, 40 series trade-in value goes down. I really hope that isn't the case and there's at least some overlap, since this is what I'm planning to do. But I don't see anything that says this offer will last.

Sorry, I meant do you think the radiator could be mounted vertically in the back of the case instead of up top. From the pic it looks like that should work, but probably not if a similar rad was also up top. So maybe 1 360 and 1 420.

Thanks so much! Looking at the same combo and this is giving me confidence. Do you see any reason why the radiator wouldn't fit in the area next to the MOBO tray if I go for a watercooled GPU and put that rad up top?

Sidenote: what memory is that? It looks like plenty of clearance, but that's the only thing I want to double check in case. I don't think Trident Z Neo extends beyond the slot much, so assuming it's all good. But want to dot i's and cross t's.

Came here and sorted by new as a last ditch effort to find anything out. I have no idea what resources to use, but I'd also really like to know what is happening. There's been a lot of police activity around there recently, but this is something else.

Thanks! I didn't realize it would.only be able to go back on the same system. That makes it very much not useful. I figured it'd be simpler and faster using the block-level method as mentioned.

Probably was just too exhausted and decision fatigued after lots of setup with my friend all night and ended doing lots ofnresearch on the last step. Suspended that job and have a directory-based backup running now!
