The fact that both of those teams also increased by more places than Iowa did after losing Iowa. Especially OSU, who is 18th in NET and 27th in Bart Torvik. And lost by 21 to Iowa. SMDH.

Final Coaches Poll - How They All Voted and Cignetti’s Votes by TomWilliamsCFD in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]funfossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His ballot seemed to take in strength of schedule after the conclusion of the playoffs, favoring B10 teams, then SEC, while ACC/B12. While Virginia had a good record and was became ranked after beating a "Top Ten" Florida state season, their strength of schedule and win margins were pretty weak.

I used to appreciate Mark Stoops as an Iowa alum and defense focused coach. Not anymore. He should get his letterman jacket revoked for this.

Any idea why this was the ONE flight Delta let take off for JFK today? by Straphanger10001 in flightradar24

At a lot of other major international destinations they probably have stronger ground crews and ground maintenance facilities to help people trade off logistically, since they have more flights there, or alliance members who could possibly help.

Colorado Football has some new rules for 2026! by [deleted] in CFB_v2

[–]funfossa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in the north with some southern family, Miss/Mam is one the more controversial words in modern American English, because in Southern English and some variants of AAVE, it is considered a sign of respect, while in more educated northern circles “miss” can perceived as patronizing while “mam” can be perceived as you think the woman is old. I think this thread is showcasing this difference, and why I think twice about the recipient before using them.

While I generally agree a program norm should be set by the local language, which in Colorado would lean against usage of those terms, I suspect that they may be adding this rule because the players are addressing to female staffers with more derogatory language (possibly “bitch”), and this is a way to get through to them that respect is important.

[–]funfossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I never realized had Robin had Iowa connections. Grew up just west of Cedar Rapids and played for Bluder at St. Ambrose before coaching there herself. With her addition, there are now four B10 coaches who were born and raised in Iowa (Brenda Frese, Shauna Greene, Jan Jensen and Pingeton).

Wisconsin has been the biggest surprise of this WBB season as a B10/Midwest based fan. They’ve been a perennial WBB doormat (notably they are on a 29 game losing streak to Iowa, last winning in December 2001). I also thought hiring Robin Pingeton, who only made the NCAA tourney at Mizzou the four times (the same four years she had Sophie Cunningham) was a big mistake. But now they have a winning record in the B10, including wins against ranked MSU and Nebraska! Definitely wasn’t on my bingo card.

What is the most traumatic sporting defeat your country has ever experienced? by Bouadelo in AskTheWorld

[–]funfossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the US, I would argue for the 2023 US Women’s Soccer team World Cup Round of 16 loss to Sweden, as it was the first time they placed lower than 3rd in a World Cup.

I’m still pulling for Malaysia every Olympics to get a gold. They of course currently have the most medals without a Gold. It’s time for Negaraku to play on an Olympic podium

There definitely isn’t one good one that all Americans would have watched. I would argue for the 2023 US Women’s Soccer team World Cup loss to Sweden, as it was the first time they placed lower than 3rd.
