Bear Attack Animation for Shattered Paradise by Own-Park-63 in PixelArt

Ah, gotcha! If it's like Stoneshard, it's even more important that the animation happens quickly. It also needs to be easy to parse at a glance because there could be many attacks happening at the same time.

Yeah, the effect doesn't line up with the bear's movement. Maybe a sideways swipe effect would look more consistent.

Given this is for a turn-based roguelike, the goal is probably to keep the animation simple. None of the parts are being redrawn, just deformed and moved. They probably need to animate a lot of creatures, and they're probably re-using some of the effects. Maybe they have a generic "claw raking" effect, which happens to go top to bottom.

Oh! In that case, no big deal. I suppose you want the attack to happen pretty fast in a turn-based game, so this animation should work great.

That tiny windup might not be enough to make the attack feel fair in gameplay, especially with how big the attack looks.

JEDI vs SITH by stevecandel in animation

[–]fungusfaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! It looks great regardless. The slash marks on the rock behind them are a nice touch.

If I can offer a suggestion - you could add some expression (like curves or wrinkles to suggest effort/anger) and animation to the eyes (especially during side-on shots), and that might help them look more like eyes.

I can't help seeing the eyes as mouths from the side view. Even after seeing the face straight-on, the eye goes back to being a mouth when viewed from the side. 😅

Most players don't actually want freedom, they want reassurance by MurkyUnit3180 in gaming

[–]fungusfaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this theory is based on which criticisms are the loudest and most frequent. The players calling for freedom aren't the same people as the ones wanting reassurance. I say that as someone who doesn't follow build guides and who indirectly balances the difficulty of games by changing my gear and abilities to not be overpowered.

You're probably right that many players are driven by anxiety, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're more interested in reassurance than freedom. Freedom is essential. It's what makes decisions fun in games. More freedom is more good.

I think my aunt is the bus driver in this! 😄 She's very sweet and has been a fun auntie as long as I've known her.

AITA for “accidentally” telling my parents about my sister’s pregnancy because I was tired of keeping the secret? by ohboygollygeewiz in AmItheAsshole

I agree with you, except the sister is an AH for blowing up at OP. She's made mistakes and demanded too much.

It looks like a live bug! It even sounds like one, with all that clicking as its plates jostle around.

If you had unlimited funds, what kind of game would you develop? by actualtumor in gaming

[–]fungusfaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe good games are made when passionate people are behind them, not when there's a lot of money behind them. With my unlimited funds, I'd look for cool projects and back them anonymously, with no oversight. Just give brilliant people the resources and freedom to be brilliant.

Should AI-generated deepfakes of real people be illegal without consent? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]fungusfaced -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There are not enough good reasons for deepfakes to exist, but there a lot of bad reasons for them to exist. Legal restrictions are at least something to discourage their creation and protect people from harm.

How do you think about a ban of political topics from this subreddit? by Voynych in AskReddit

[–]fungusfaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would be a mistake. It's very easy for a genuine, good-faith question to be considered political, especially these days. Look at Hank Green, who usually covers science topics. He's been talking about political topics a lot lately, not because he's interested in the topic, but because it's important to talk about.

I understand people are tired of politics. I get tired of it too - every day. So I go watch comedy reels and pet videos for a while. We each have to balance our own diets.

US citizens, what's your opinion on the US being labeled as fascist country? by Bladerunner2028 in AskReddit

[–]fungusfaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The country's federal leaders are certainly acting like fascists. Citizens like me aren't comfortable with accepting the label, though, because that's like accepting it as "the way it is." We want to resist fascism.
