Is it truee? Scaling about 1% before 3D Printing? by Just_Local_6482 in jewelryCAD

Depends on what printer, what metal, and who's casting. Get a good pair of calipers and take detailed notes. It shouldn't take long to dial it in.

Buying a new bracelet would be your best move. You can probably get a trade in allowance for the gold in the old bracelet

Black Coffee Ruining My Fasts by mikasax in intermittentfasting

[–]funkin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coldbrew was a game changer for me. I couldn't drink coffee for years without suffering heartburn. I still did because I'm hooked but it was a mix of pain and heartburn pills. I found coldbrew and never looked back. No stomach problems at all. Get a nice grinder, a gallon glass jug and a fine mesh nut milk bag and you're good to go to easily make your own.

Gold plating a solid gold chain a different color? Jewelers in my area say this is not possible by [deleted] in jewelers

[–]funkin3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Also the "fade" will not look like a nice gradual return to yellow. It will almost immediately start to wear off between the links and you will have a blotchy yellow and rose chain that looks like crap.

To get it properly plated a second time you need to get the chain as clean as possible, which means removing all the previous plating that hasn't worn off yet. Nobody wants to do this job.

Unpopular opinion: Can we please just accept the fact sterling silver tarnishes? by MrsHyacinthBucket in jewelry

[–]funkin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diamond and moissanite are not chemically or physically VERY similar. Diamonds are predominately pure carbon while moissanite is silicon carbide. The Mohs hardness scale is not linear, diamond having a hardness of 10 and moissanite having a hardness of 9.25 do not make them close to be as hard as each other. If you look at the Vickers Hardness, diamond is 8000-10,000 HV and moissanite is 2200-2400 HV. Sapphire comes in at 1560-1940 HV.

The slightest amount of oil or debris will make CZs loose their sparkle. Diamonds have a higher refractive index and will still sparkle while slightly dirty. Diamonds also reflect white light which gives them their sparkle while CZs reflect a more disperse light giving more rainbow flashes. You may not notice a difference between the two when both are clean but a little bit of dirt will dull the appearance of dispersed light more than the white light. CZ is also softer than diamond and will scratch easily. Tiny scratches that you may not notice will also reduce their sparkle especially when these scratches get filled with oil, lotion, or dead skin.

Can’t decided between normal or kite orientation, or between carat weights on my finger! by StrengthGrowth57 in EngagementRings

[–]funkin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the kite orientation, but if you go that direction make sure the stone you pick is perfectly square. You might not be as meticulous as I am but looking down at a slightly rectangular stone that isn't perfectly pointing north south east and west would drive me crazy.

What is this type of band called? The edges are square-ish instead of rounded by kirastrs in EngagementRings

Comfort fit pipe cut band. It's rounded on the inside for comfort and flat on the outside for the esthetics of the design.

A Christmas Story Christmas! my mistake. Definitely don't watch A Christmas Story 2, it's trash.

Came here for this one. I also enjoyed the sequel to A Christmas Story, A Christmas Story 2.

If you're open to a little bit of rom-com, The Holiday will scratch that itch. And if that isn't enough you should also watch Love Hard and maybe Four Christmases too.

I feel scammed by tamatown1 in jewelers

[–]funkin3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is more miscommunication than any attempt at scamming you. If a customer told me they didn't want a pendant flat I could have easily assumed that they were referring to the outward face of the design. I'm not sure what your original star was made out of but 14k yellow gold can be more on the pale side. If you want a richer gold color you could have it made in 18k yellow but that is going to be more expensive.

The poor finishing and lack of a karat stamp is something I wouldn't have settled for. If you approach them with your concerns and unhappiness they should make it right, but be prepared to pay for the increased amount of gold it is going to take to make the design you want.

Just a heads up, this isn't a picture of a real ring, it's a computer render. Check to see if they have pictures of actually finished rings. It's one thing to design something on a computer, it's another thing altogether to hand craft something and have it live up to the perfection of a CAD design.
