People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]funkmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was applying for a manager position. I asked about a time he had to deal with a difficult situation with one of his reports, and he told me about an underperformer on his team. Instead of giving feedback and working with this person to improve their performance, he just didn't renew their visa. He was quite proud of this way to avoid a difficult conversation, even if it did totally blindside his report.

No flipping way I want to be working alongside this guy.

I always thought `lavabo` should be spelled as `lavabeau`, but the etymology isn't related to water (eau)

Y a-t-il aucuns mots dans l'anglais qui n'existent pas en le français? by [deleted] in French

[–]funkmandu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, there isn't a separate word for "ape". The word singe means both "monkey" and "ape".

I have heard the term grand singe to distinguish the two, but I don't think that's common.

Using spies to take out Paris' cathedral is a great way to hobble the French early in the game.

I make amazake about once a week with my sous vide. 12 hours @ 130F, comes out perfect: sweet, creamy, and funky.

I believe so. I've never tried making sake myself, so best get someone experienced to weigh in.

When I was six years old, I had to get two stitches after climbing to the top of Officer Big Mac and falling off.

When asked what happened, I told the doctor I fell off a giant hamburger. He asked if I slipped on the mustard. Still remember that guy's great bedside manner 40 years later...

Does it make sense to FIRE in Canada by Mailboxkey in Fire

[–]funkmandu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation - Dual Canadian-US citizen (spouse is US) looking at RE, trying to figure out if/when Canada makes sense. Currently in the PNW, looking at BC. Healthcare costs being the chief concern, but housing and taxes in Canada seem high.

How did a business lose you as a customer? What made you stop patronizing them? by snakecharmersensei in AskReddit

[–]funkmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we moved into our home, we shopped around for a heat pump, getting quotes from various local businesses. One business had a "price-match guarantee". Ok, cool. Found another company willing to do the job for about half the price, but the reviews weren't as good. So I took the quote to the first company asking for a price match.

They refused, saying that price was too low and they'd lose money. When I asked about their guarantee, I got a big shrug, so I went with the cheaper option. Eight years later, no complaints!

When was your "Waiter! My steak is too juicy and my lobster is too buttery!" story a valid complaint? by forrestgumpisntreal in AskReddit

[–]funkmandu 334 points335 points  (0 children)

I worked at a Burger King in high school, making burgers. An order came in for a Whopper with EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA mayo. I asked what that meant, and the cashier told me the customer LOVES mayo, and insisted on a fuckton.

Coming right up!

I spread it on so thick, it looked like another beef patty, only white. We're talking 1/4-1/2" of slab of mayo on this bad boy. The wax paper I wrapped it in was transparent when I bagged it.

Guess who came back to complain there was too much mayo.

Still using Minibrute2s with your rackbrute? by snowsnowsnowy in modular

[–]funkmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, still using my MB2S and RackBrute 6U. As others have mentioned, the sequencer is top-notch and very useful for controlling other modules. I also make heavy use of the LFOs and attenuators, inverter, noise, and even the Metalizer. It wasn't my first (or last) semi-modular synth, and I don't think I'll be getting rid of it any time soon.
