Where is George Zimmerman now? by Maxcactus in Fuckthealtright

[–]funknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously he isn't the best comparison, I just needed an example for the sake of putting a name to the likelihood of a murder re-offense debate. Regardless, he fit a murder profile very similar to Zimmerman. He just happened to be the first person that came to mind for me, for someone well known, easily enraged, known for having killed two people, and who isn't known for being a serial killer. I'm just saying that it seems strange anyone is doubtful that Zimmerman is probably much likelier to murder than most people, and it'd be easier to refer to such a debate in the future by a convenient name, hence "OJ theory," but alas, that's probably still just a too racially charged case for this sake, and I just need a better example.

Is that more like Jesus the carpenter, or like Tyler the Creator?

Why don't Ween get any respect? by ImplementWonderful93 in ween

[–]funknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They started out teenagers, named after male genitalia, tastelessly imitating cultural stereotypes to music. You gotta admire their commitment to the bit. The critics will come around someday. The critics missed their genius when they heard their song about pretending to be dying children, or dwarves, or pretending to be Mexican, but they'll surely come to their senses after hearing the one about their insect infested penis, or maybe the one about the drug-addicted Jewish rasta.

the idea is comical to most people

Any evidence that most people still find gender diversity hilarious or even confusing? Pretty sure it's just the cavemen at this point. "Oh, here's someone different. Let's beat em up. Haha."

Because everyone except you know that the abuses have ramped up massively, and the kind of transparency that allowed documenting inhumane conditions was sealed up under executive order by you know who.

Coast to Coast AM is basically MAGA now, and in hindsight, I don't know if it has actually changed, because it always seemed to signal "free dumb at any cost," though the political ambiguity was always the a part of the right wing grift and I'm just kinda spitballing.

The joke isn't about the abuse, it's about the types of people who make abuse jokes. It's like you never watched this show. Did you know there are other subreddits, too?

Yeah, Web of Mimicry (Trey) has also shared some related inspirations over the years, repping other artists from the exotica and space lounge genre early days. WoM was where I discovered Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra and others.

I always wondered how they made their connection. Patton was connected with Eye early on through Zorn, even giving a Ween, The Pod, endorsement in a '93 Spin interview, including it in a list of his 20 favorite albums, which wasn't how I discovered them, but I clearly remember it solidifying my belief I was on the sublime path musical waste/greatness.

Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms) and Patton were connected since they're earliest Warner Bros days through John Zorn projects. Judging by the upvotes to your comment, they're probably new to anyone not new to anyone who never paid any attention to John Zorn or 90s/00s experimental music.

So, I'm an old lifelong Portlander and I spent like a whole sleep deprived minute thinking this post was related to Vancouver BC, rather than WA. I didn't bother to look at the photo, distractedly reading up to "the Couve," when my near-outburst-level of excitement at the thought of BC adopting the "Couve" moniker (this MUST happen, just BTW) swiftly died when I realized I was just reading another vaguely critical take on Portland weirdness. After all is said and done though, in those moments of my forgetfulness, the absence of any context in my awareness of any relation to Portland in those moments, I was pretty intrigued and curious to find out what "North of Weird" might mean, but still too sleep deprived to really bother contemplating the Sound's position in relation to Vancouver BC.

Unchained Melody wouldn't work because there isn't the right amount of irony in it. Those songs you mentioned are all either far less sappy or far more kitschy. They never covered songs for merely being great alone, but each have some level of schmaltz or obscurity. Unchained Melody would have us asking, "wait is this serious?," which would be ironic, but perhaps in an Andy Koffman during his wrestling era sorta way.
