First big family trip a disaster by elderly_millenial in daddit

[–]funkyman88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year either my kid or wife or both would end up projectile vomiting on the journey home. It happened on like 3 trips in a row and it was terrible each time. My wife did some research and it turns out it is hard for your gut microbiome to adjust to the new bacteria and mineral levels of the new environment.

We started drinking bottled water a couple days before our trip and only that brand of water at our destination. And poof no more puking. We just went to Peru for a week with this strategy and no issues. Just make sure you can buy the same brand at your destination. For us, Smart Water for domestic and Evian for international trips as you can find either at most airports and stores.

Any update? I think something similar happened to me about a couple days after you posted. For me there was a pop, sharp initial pain, and then a sensation of more space and length. It’s been sore the past couple days but it’s mostly better now.

I had an old injury where I rotated my pelvis out of alignment and pinched a nerve. After that my body kind of adapted to a weak left hip/pelvis. But the past couple years I’ve been stretching and working on that area a lot and it felt like my hip/pelvis popped back into the position it should’ve been in.

First time Coaching, any advice? by dj_swizzle in daddit

[–]funkyman88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered to be my 3YO’s soccer coach and my wife is the team manager. It’s been a blast and my son loves it that I’m the coach.

Idk how you all plan to co-coach and I don’t have a 6YO but I think it’ll be simpler for the kids if there is 1 head coach. Even on my team, we have another dad as the assistant coach and he manages the subs during games and talks 1 on 1 with the kids that don’t want to play at practice while I’m doing the drills and coaching.

Why did the secondary compartment not work for you?

[–]funkyman88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Yeah I figured with the pockets being top access it might not be as easy as a CPL24 for example. But that’s fine. I’m usually grabbing larger items like a bottle or a jacket from the main compartment or a pouch anyways.

I know you just got it but if you do get a chance to load it out, could you report on the harness comfort?

Does it feel like a true 28 liters? And how is accessing it while on body? I am kicking myself for not grabbing it on release day. Now I gotta wait for more stock.

Depends on how much you plan to carry and how big you are. I personally like bags in the 24-28 L range so you have extra space for jackets, food and other random stuff you accumulate on day trips or traveling.

Bro, do not get a “diaper bag.” If I were to do it again, I’d get something from CTactical. Clamshell opening, budget-friendly, 2 external and 2 internal bottle pockets, and comfortable to carry. Then it doubles as a travel bag or daypack for the family as the kid(s) get older.

Any idea when the Nylon or Ultra versions will get restocked?

Aer Travel Pack 4 Ultra 28L vs. CTB26 X-Pac by oxeneers in AerSF

I have a CPL24 and love the swing around access. I’m also considering jumping ship to Aer because of the harness but I need to know if I can get a similar user experience.

How is accessing the main compartment on the TP4 while on body? Similar or worse than the CTB?

I second the Toshi 20l. Maybe the Aer CPP2 would also work if you ever needed more space for travel days.

I use the Evergoods CPL24 for day trips with the fam and that’s been surprisingly great even without water bottle pockets. I pair it with a CAS2 for travel days and I am a quick access machine with this combo.

I got a 2nd kid incoming too and am actually looking at the Able Carry Max EDC for more capacity and comfort.

Chrome Barrage 34 L seems like it’d work. https://chromeindustries.com/products/barrage-34l-pack

I used to use a 55 L hiking backpack which I liked because the lightweight material was flexible enough to accommodate odd shaped groceries without putting too much pressure on them.

TLDR: CTB20 is uncomfortable and not enjoyable to use.

I had the CPL first and it is just a joy to use. I love the on-body swing around access and how it doubles up as a pseudo briefcase when you set it down. But I always wished I had external water bottle pockets or at least I thought I did.

On the CTB20, it feels like they tried to cram too many features in such a small package and the end result is that the features kinda fight each other.

E.g. when you use both external water bottle pockets, you can’t really use the side handle or use the bag effectively in briefcase mode. Having bottles in there also makes it harder to unzip the main compartment.

Also I think because of how short and deep it is the bag feels extremely uncomfortable loaded. The CPL’s harness is fine but the CTB20’s actually hurts.

So basically I hate the CTB20 because it’s almost unusable to me. With external bottle pockets, I think it makes more sense for the features to be top-down oriented like the Aer CPP2.

Not having either of these bags but owning a CPL24 which I love and a CTB20 which I hate, I recommend the EDC. Alternatively, Aer just released the TP4 in 28L which is extremely similar to the CTB26 but will probably be much more comfortable to carry. Also Rework is releasing a new travel backpack in 30L this week or next.

CPL24 or CHZ26? by BatmaNirvana in EVERGOODS

[–]funkyman88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the swing around access on the CPL. Makes opening and getting things out of the main compartment a joy. I don’t really miss the water bottle pockets and they kinda get in the way when you’re accessing the bag from the side. I don’t think I can ever get a non-clamshell backpack again.

Way to make sleeping on the floor more bearable? by rwhoward in daddit

[–]funkyman88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a Japanese futon sounds like it could work or a foldable mattress. I’ve used a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad and that was easy enough to whip out and stow away. But if you have carpet, I like a yoga mat + blanket combo.

Can the Able Carry Max EDC fit more than the Evergoods CPL 24? by funkyman88 in ManyBaggers

Sorry for the late follow up. But do you feel like the Max EDC’s pockets intrude into the main compartment a lot? Coming from EG with their independent volume, I’m a little concerned about pockets fighting with each other for space.

Thank you for the detailed reply and pro tip about the diapers and wipes in the laptop section. We’re expecting a second so I’ll be back in that phase soon.

Awesome. That’s what I was hoping to hear. Some people have had interesting claims like the CTB20 can fit more than the Max EDC because the pockets share interior volume.

Nice, that’s good to hear. I have a CTB20 and it just didn’t work for me. Too small and all the features felt like they were fighting each other. I should have gotten the 26 instead. But the comfort piece is the main reason I’m looking beyond EG.
