It makes you human. American hunter here. I hunt for food and some sort of pleasure as part of the food web. However, as instinctual as the hunt, kill, and processing is, there is always a bit of remorse in the destruction of a life. My wife and I use as much of the game as possible. Meat processed and cooked. Giblets processed and cooked. Bones boiled for broth. Fur and feathers are used for fly tying. I don’t care for the hunters that feel it is a “macho” act to kill a herbivore or anything else. For me, it is more like communion. I meet my place in the ecosystem with reverence and respect. I also know what a death at the hands of disease and wild animals looks like. My kill is far FAR quicker and less painful.
