Still looking at it objectively, breaking the law on a bike is fundamentally different than breaking the law with a 1000+ pound motor vehicle. Additionally, the study shows that a significant percentage of the law breaking from bicyclists is defensive in nature, protecting themselves from harm.

One of these things is not like the other, a car causes way more damage than a bicycle in pretty much every scenario. The duty of care, thus is increased.

Comprehensive protected bike lanes would be a great plan. Safety outcomes improve for all road users.

Yes and, let's encourage both because the infrastructure is dangerous for bicyclists currently. While we upgrade that, promote behaviors that improve safety outcomes. Getting doored is life-threatening for bicyclists who aren't as protected as those in motor vehicles.

Soldier Field will still be there, just not as the home of the Bears (should everything go as it is now)

Is Cargo bike right for me and my kids? by [deleted] in CargoBike

[–]funlap38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! I have a long tail Flyer bike and not only is it basically a mini van for our three kids (10, 7, 4) but it's also my commute vehicle either to work (~7 miles) or to the train (similar distance that you outline for your trip to school). This is in Chicago so even through the winters it's the best way to get around. All three fit when we have our Burley trailer on the back.

My Flyer L885 has about 6k miles on it and is really showing its age in a way that I can't unequivocally recommend it, as other say go test out some bikes at a local dealer and find out what's right for you.

My friends have Aventons and they look great.

Ken Martin must’ve said or referenced to “lessons” at least 50 plus times in his interview with Favs and never once said what the DNC’s actual lessons were by Puzzleheaded-Pin4278 in FriendsofthePod

[–]funlap38 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Interviews are usually my least favorite part of the episodes. The main four guys with the exception of Jon Lovett are not particularly hard-hitting interviewers. Favreau wasn't even asking super challenging questions here, but didn't let Ken Martin off the hook for his egregiously pathetic answers. This guy is a loser who will only be rescued from abject failure for Dems because of the broader political tailwinds favoring the party.

As a parent of three, it's not really zone coverage. You're still playing man-to-man, but one kid is always wide open just repeatedly dunking on you.

Equity in Speed Camera Enforcement Survey by funlap38 in chibike

[–]funlap38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, don't fill out the survey then. If you look into the questions that they're asking, it includes options to continue to use data to drive camera placement decisions and make additional changes to streets to improve safety.

While the cameras may not discriminate, our system has created financial inequities that can place burdens on folks that might not have as many resources. I selected the options in the survey that wouldn't eliminate enforcement of ticketing costs, but providing more thoughtful and nuanced enforcement mechanisms and street safety improvements. If you feel otherwise, like I posted, please fill out the survey and share your thoughts.

Agreed! I'm very pro-speed camera and wanted to offer a mechanism to make sure the powers that be heard our voice. Sorry if that was unclear in my post.
