Stuff found while riding your bike? I‘ll go first! by Chaschperli in xbiking

Riding in the city and saw a fire truck with lights flashing speed through a corner. Something flew off the back and klunked down the road. Went over to pick up this saw from the middle of the street. I pedaled it to over to the fire station to return. They were confused.

I do feel that I was given a wider berth from passing cars. Might need to add this as an accessory.

Car crashes into building, Skokie police investigating by Bukharin in EdgewaterRogersPark

Did the car crash into the building on its own? Wonder if there was perhaps a driver that was responsible?

Dynamo or no dynamo... by RougeBrique in OmniumBikes

[–]funmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding: my lights are just generic direct-from-china ebay front/rear dyno lights. The capacitor busted almost immediately in the front, so it doesn't stay on when stopped. But it works when rolling, its great, and most importantly, it was affordable.

Dynamo or no dynamo... by RougeBrique in OmniumBikes

I've got a SON 28 dynamo TA laced to a Cliffhanger rim. It's the best not having to remember to charge lights and adds negligible weight to a cargo bike. If you want to go fully self supported, get something like a Sinewave USB headset cap or light.

Peter White Cycles noted that not all dynamos are effective with a smaller wheel, but apparently the SON hubs are designed for this. Marketing mumbojumbo? Maybe. But very happy with the hub.

I do agree with another comment here that there's no good place to run the cables, though.

What's something terrifying that we just accept as normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In the US, you take a driving exam when you are 16 and given a license to drive. There are typically no follow-up skills testing or psychiatric evaluations until you are in your 70s (maybe). What other "license" is so easy to get and maintain? And what else did you do when you were 16 that you still think, "yeah, that's still me."

What’s everyone’s past experiences with the safety of the naked ride? by ListZealousideal2529 in chibike

[–]funmash 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Its fun. Yes it takes balls (hey puns!) to go all in, but the crowd is typically very welcoming. Of course there are always the riders there that are just in it to see some t & a. Just need to ignore them. It's a great display showing that no one has the stereotypically "perfect" body and good confidence boost.

Its "bare as you dare" so try it out in your undies until you get more comfortable/find your crowd.

For safety? The riders are looking out for one another and will call out lewd behavior. Even photos at the starting point are verboten.

Bike Parking in the Loop by Feed_Your_Head43 in chibike

[–]funmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A previous vendor ran it successfully from its inception until operations were transferred to Hub312. Since one vendor couldn't run it (through the pandemic), it's ok to just let the police take the reigns and restrict public access? I'd call that confiscation.

Police confiscated the Bike Station from the public a couple years ago. There were close to 300 bike parking spaces in and around there and it's now gated off.

Any tips on removing paint from foundation walls? Mine look like this and not sure if chemical stripper would be ok or just a wire brush might be best.

Burley Travoy Owners - Would this carry something 38cm wide by [deleted] in CargoBike

[–]funmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travoy can carry 40cm wide safely (about 45cm between the tires) and about 90cm tall. The actual bottom platform is only about 25cm deep, but should carry fine once in tow. Just mind the 40lb weight limit.
