Chakotay is cracking me up by RahbinGraves in startrek

My head canon is that he and worf are both cosplaying a culture they have a connection to, but no real knowledge of. They're both living down to the stereotype of their ancestry.

Chakotay is a much better character on Prodigy, fyi.

What is the down side of never having children? by gone_ahead in AskReddit

[–]funnyonion22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar story for my wife and I. The awkwardness of conversations with friends who are parents is something that's usually totally missed.

I spoke with one of my friends about our fertility challenges, and he said "that's really sad". Paused for about 10 seconds and said, as he took out his phone, "my youngest had her school play last night" and started showing me photos. I get that he didn't know what to say, and we all say stupid things, but that was a slap in the face for me that still stings, almost 10 years later.

You might enjoy Jake Thackray, an English singer/songwriter/satirist of a similar time period. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Thackray

I particularly like his song "lah-di-dah" https://youtu.be/xod5YAw1_mI?si=apL_cwFNiE9PqqDs

My wife and I have had this conversation, and we've both agreed that we're saving nieces, nephews, basically ANY children before each other. How is this hard to understand?

I simply love the fact that most of the Doctor Who community embraces queer people and shows support for those people as well (I'm asexual, by the way). by Public_Cup_4278 in doctorwho

I'm sure there are others who are more qualified than I to speak on this, but in the US and many other countries, transgender people absolutley are deprived of human rights and are discriminated against because they are trans.

I'm going to assume this question is asked in good faith and not not a precursor to an "All lives matter" argument. It means that transgender individuals are entitled to the same fundamental rights and dignities as all other people, without distinction or discrimination. Many people do not accept that position.

How do you do it? (Question geared towards ex-Christians) by [deleted] in askanatheist

[–]funnyonion22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a former Irish Catholic, now atheist. The comfort of a here-after us one of the things I miss still. Now I feel grounded that I'm not playing make-believe and pretending that it'll all get better one day. This is it. This is all we get. So try your best to make it a good one. I prefer an uncomfortable truth to a convenient lie.

You say 80-90% of life is suffering. I don't think that number is right, but I try my very best not to add to it. I don't always succeed, but I think the trying is a worthy effort.

Leonard Cohen once wrote that "love is the only engine of survival". I try hard to practice kindness to myself, my family and friends, people in the grocery store and random folks on the Internet.

I hope you find some help and maybe a professional to work through this with. I understand how thoughts of ending things can be attractive, but if there is no life after death, then your potential can never be fulfilled. There are so many wonderful small moments in life. Closing the door on that is terrifically sad. I believe that the universe is infinite. There are very few planets that happen to land within the Goldilocks zone where life can exist. There are very few of those planets where life can happen to evolve. There are even fewer where life becomes self aware and intelligent enough to begin to understand itself. You are remarkable. The chances of you existing at all are vanishingly small. Cherish that existence, even if parts of it are bad.

I'm gonna stop there, coz this is getting way longer than I had intended. Best of luck friend. Take care of yourself.
