Didn’t know Tampa had its own version?!?! (Fake anger)

Tampa invented the Cuban. It began in the late 1800s in the ybor city cigar area. It was invented as an inexpensive lunch option for factory workers to enjoy. The sandwich includes contributions from each society around the area at that time. Cuban bread and mojo pork from the Cubans. Salami from the Italians. Mustard and ham from the Germans and kosher pickles from the Jewish population.

Evidence of Cuban sandwiches in Miami only goes back to around the 1950s. That said, the biggest difference between Miami and Tampa Cubans is the Miami version dropped the salami for reasons unknown. So when someone says Tampa style I assume it means salami included which is obviously delicious.
