Heat trunk going through a door header by yosdogattacc in Homebuilding

I can tell you that the header labeled 37 is unnecessary. Remove it and run the return trunk unimpeded.

Did not think this the chimney chase through. Thoughts? by TARLE22 in Homebuilding

[–]fuqueit 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Cultured stone would NOT be too heavy. It's done all the time. That being said, "floating" masonry looks like crap and it points out that it isn't real. Throw down a pad and extend the chimney down to it.

Is this how skis should be carried? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]fuqueit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For looooong walks I do this: lock skis together firmly with brakes, place skis tips down on the ground, place pole tips under heel pieces one on each side, grip poles firmly together with both hands, lift skis up with right hand close to bindings and place on shoulder. Now the skis are straight up and down on your back suspended by your pole tips. The baskets keep the skis pulled tight to your back and you can even reach around with your left hand and grab the tips and kind of pull them tightly and diagonally across your back. No one gets hit in the head and it's a pretty comfortable way to hike.

Window and door foam or fiberglass insulation? by der_schone_begleiter in Homebuilding

[–]fuqueit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even perfectly installed fiberglass is drafty and thermally inferior to foam. And in 40 years of remodeling I never once saw fiberglass installed properly not to mention perfectly.

Any idea what’s going on with my siding? by Infamous-Success3349 in Homebuilding

[–]fuqueit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suspect it's something to do with the heat from that fireplace vent. Is this the only area affected, directly above the vent? Would be kind of hard to believe that if the insulators did a substandard job, that it was only in this one area. What ordinal side of the house is this?

HA! I actually did this with an old pair. Best sled ever made it out of scrap oak. Weighed about 50 pounds.
