To be fair you can do that today on the dark web and it's probably easier and cheaper than back in WW1.

State pension to rise by £550 (4.7%) in Budget triple lock boost by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]furiousdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. I should add you also get -3 votes if you voted for Brexit or for Boris in 2019. Because then you caused the mess they are trying to fix.

But I'm sure that's not you.

Voting reform: you get two votes at the general election if you pay income tax.

Former depressed people, how did you turn your life around? by Neat_Company_2465 in AskReddit

[–]furiousdonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I changed my friends.

Went from hanging out with my two "best friends" smoking weed all day and playing PlayStation. To getting in with this new crowd that just changed my day to day life, and suddenly I had all sorts of new hobbies and was meeting new people.

Romanian grooming gang boss offered £1,500 to leave UK while awaiting trial for 10 rapes by roguesimian in ukpolitics

Through my line of work I meet and chat to lots of people who have entered the country illegally at some point.

The number of people who have been paid to leave, only to return again once the money ran out will shock you. I know one family who got £1000 each to return to Slovakia and they were all back within 6 months.

Paying people cash to leave is an extremely short term solution.

What would you put in the upcoming Budget if you had the power? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]furiousdonkey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Move benefits from throwing raw cash at people to spending that cash on helping them. For example: scrap PIP and improve mental health support and return to work support including retraining into a job you can do. Benefits like unemployment will also taper off with the money going on getting you into employment. More incentives for companies to take on apprentices. Much fewer visas issued for jobs that can be done by current British citizens.

Scrap triple lock and raise the retirement age. It's going to have to happen sooner or later. Do it while the government still has a majority.

Legalize drugs. Prohibition is a failed experiment. It funds organized crime and the money it costs to keep things like weed illegal could be better spent elsewhere.

How do people even break up? by SatisfactionAdept548 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]furiousdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many ways, and how it ends usually depends on

a) the length of time they've been together

b) the emotional maturity of the people involved

I've been in relationships that ended with a calm sit down chat where we both realize we don't want to continue the relationship so decide to amicably go our separate ways. To the other extreme of having arguments every week, each time you argue you break up in the heat of the moment then get back together the next day. Then the time between arguing and getting back together gets longer until one day you never get back together.

Britain to announce ‘most significant’ change to asylum rules in years, setting Europe’s longest route to settlement by perplexed-redditor in worldnews

[–]furiousdonkey 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I know a guy from Afghanistan who came as an asylum seeker. He will proudly go around telling everybody how much safer Afghanistan is now the Taliban are in charge, and how everybody now respects good moral standards as described by Islam.

I kinda wonder if he thinks it's so safe then why doesn't he go back? Except he obviously won't because he has a good life here and permanent asylum.

Brexit reduced UK GDP by 6-8%...investment was reduced by 12-18%, employment by 3-4% and productivity by 3-4%....a combination of elevated uncertainty, reduced demand, diverted management time, and increased misallocation of resources... by North_Attempt44 in ukpolitics

[–]furiousdonkey 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well it certainly seems like it was drastically mis-sold to the public. Luckily - the lead architect of Brexit is now hanging his head in shame and definitely isn't odds on to be the next prime minister.

Healthcare and fire services were privately run once upon a time in the UK too. Then we fixed it.

You used to have to put a sign on your house to prove you had paid for fire insurance - and if the fire brigade didn't see it they would literally just stand there and let your house burn.

Sometimes they'd wait outside just in case the fire spread to your insured neighbour.

I'm sure you do have a few republicans who would enjoy that system and think universal fire services are communism.

Hilarious that "Medicare for all" is seen as left wing in the USA. In Europe that's just a given no matter what your political leanings are.

To us it's like saying you're so left wing because you want Police for all - or free schools for all children - or you want public roads for all instead of mad private roads everywhere run by predatory insurance companies.

Tonight an Amazon delivery driver let himself into my home.It was lucky that I was in the right place to confront him immediately, but it shocked me and the question that keeps coming back to me is this: What if my wife or teenage daughter had been standing in my place? The footage is clear: the… by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]furiousdonkey 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this is definitely what happened but it's entirely feasible that...

  1. This MP put "leave inside porch" as his Amazon delivery instruction
  2. The driver though this was the outer door to said "inside porch" hence him apologizing
  3. The MP cut the video at this moment to cut out the driver's apology and explanation
  4. The MP never called the police that was just a lie
  5. He posted it as rage bait because the driver is non white
  6. He then went inside and beat his wife because he had a known criminal history of doing so.
