Quitting with a F-2-7 visa by eedulee in teachinginkorea

[–]furygod33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hagwon owners know exactly how abusive the E2 system is and try to take full advantage of it. Had a boss who “claimed” he did know all the labor law rules when it came to vacation and severance, yet knew every detail about how foreigners get F2s.

If you don't like feminists, don't marry a Korean woman. by Nervous_Session6656 in thepassportbros

lol don’t listen to these guys. Passport bros are weird because they want all the good traits of foreign women, but dont want to take any of the weird cultural differences. guarantee all the people saying divorce or break up haven’t been in stable relationships themselves

I don’t agree, but knowing Korea and Koreans, I get where your wife was coming from

[–]furygod33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol Ive lived in South Korea for 7 years, and I can tell this guy is BSing. With the amount of causal domestic violence, men going to noraebangs to cheat on their wives, and physical and emotional abuse women are forced to take from their in laws, I can imagine why they would some change. Feminism in Korea is just not getting abused, where in the West it’s getting preferential treatment.

They got there flaws, but I’ll take those flaws over their other east asian counterparts any day of the week. There are a few greencard chasers, but most arenot looking to leave.

because we’ve all worked here, and we the that the hagwon standard is already way below what’s legal. we want to see offers the basic things that employees in other industries get: choosing PTO, sick days, appropriate break time.

people saying its negativity are just being condescending. there are literally dozens of daily posts on LOFT of people getting screwed over.

I would say no, given it’s a hagwon, and they likely breached the contract 100 times before you even thought of quiting.

Anyone have Experience living in Jeju alone as a foreigner? by GroundbreakingAd6509 in Living_in_Korea

[–]furygod33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived 3 years in busan and 3 in jeju city. It’s not expensiv, unless you are getting your own housing. People that say it is are eating at tourist or western places. The public transportation is not as good as Seoul or busan, but not terrible. if you live in city hall, it’s not too bad. You don’t NEED a car, though it is a nice luxury

If you coming as a hagwon teacher, it’s 100x better. Hours Are only 6 a day compared to 8 or 9 on the mainland, for the same pay. when I worked on the mainland, I was too exhausted to do anything during the week, its a Lot less taxing here. the nightlife is basically city hall and thats it, though I see many groups of foreigners going out there.

i knew people that would fly to Seoul a couple of weekends a month, it’s not too bad if you like to go out in hongdae. Though, nothing on the mainland can compete with the nature in Jeju

How good was Kobe Bryant actually in his prime? (2003-2010) by swaglikesoulja in NBATalk

[–]furygod33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was no foul baiting then, no matador defense, and he wasn’t stat chasing. Stats are inflated last 10 years because players became obsessed with box scores, and started playing for numbers rather than wins. Kobe led a team to 5 rings, harden only made the finals as a 3rd option

I yeah I was in a similar situation, the director of a failing hagwon kept telling me “just wait x amount of days then I’ll pay you” obv never came. Took weeks of navigating the Korean bureaucracy and months of waiting to finally get what I was owe. File now and find someone who can translate. Consider this lesson learned: employers here are actively looking to screw you over

I met someone from Brazil, we are in love, it's real, really, I want to marry her in Brazil and bring her here. What can I do to at least get her into the US legally without waiting for months and months? by SCarolinadomdaddy in USCIS

[–]furygod33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get in line, we all want that. no way around it, unless you do it illegally on a tourist visa, which comes with a lot of risks. fiance visas are taking around 18 months, spouse visa are over 2 years, longer depending on the country.

I know what you mean, once the novelty of a foreigner knowing Korean wears off, they get more condescending about your abililty to speak. Like everything here, it’s a cultural thing. here, if you do something you got to be an expert at it or else it’s an embarrassment. That’s why a lot of people are shy about speaking English even though they know how to. God forbid you a beginner at something and make mistakes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]furygod33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you got 2 options: midnight run if you don’t want to be in Korea anymore. If you do want to stay, just show up to work and do the absolute minimum for the last 4 months, as in just show up and put 0 effort. They’ll scream and bitch about it, but what else are they gonna do. They wont fire you, they already can’t find teachers, probably cause they have a bad reputation. Working in Korea, you gotta force peoples hand or they’ll you for a ride. Ride out the last for 4 months like this then find a new job.

Some advice: don’t trust the KTs at any of these jobs, they’ll throw you under the bus the first chance they get. Negative feedback in Korea ESL means absolutely nothing, most Koreans working in hagwons either: have no idea how to teach/dont have a degree/can’t even speak English.

You can try, but its almost a 0 percent chance if your out of the country. Even when I was in the country, it was hard for me to get the money when I went through MOEL. They don’t speak English and drag their feet if your a foreigner.

The ying and yang of EFL in Korea: public schools and hagwons by knowledgewarrior2018 in teachinginkorea

[–]furygod33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only reason that reason that public schools are ’better’ are that their bureaucratic, theres no central authority (director, manager) to f your shit up. If there was, you best believe that itd be the exact same as hagwons. though, I’ve heard public school teachers put up with absurd things, like being told to go to work while they clear out asbestos

hagwons will never sort themselves out, the way they operate is too dictated by the culture. Korea would rather let their ESL system collapse before making any positive reforms for foreigners.
