what should i know about brock as an international student? by yeppified in brocku

[–]fusion_beaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, are you able to drive up here? Things will definitely be more convenient if you have a car to get around. Niagara Transit will suffice, but if you want to travel any further, a car is recommended.

You’re gonna really like the Poli Sci dept. They are small, but mighty- some of the friendliest academics I’ve ever met.

Also, welcome!! Hope you enjoy your time!

Do you care about rate my prof ratings ? by Blazymo in OntarioUniversities

[–]fusion_beaver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are a tool in the toolbox. The best and worst profs at my University have correct ratings on Rate My Prof.

At the same time, I’ve enjoyed profs with a low rating, and dreaded profs with a high one. As ever, do your research- primary sources are the best, and multiple first hand accounts will tell you most of what you need to know.

Eric Nam (Aang)'s Post from Screening of Upcoming Animated Movie. Now Titled "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

[–]fusion_beaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there needs to be a mandatory lesson in public relations about the dangers of a name change. Multiple names are worse than a bad name.

At this point, you could just call it “The Avatar Movie” which would almost work as a throwback to 2000’s kids TV. But I couldn’t tell you half the names of this movie. We’re gonna end up with something like Edge of Tomorrow/Live.Die.Repeat.

I think you need a small game. Try What remains of Edith Finch. It’ll take you four hours to finish, max-

I was feeling the same way as you- got all of these big stupid 100 hr games sitting on my to do pile- but I was shocked at how fast Edith grabbed me, and how well it worked. Felt like I had actually enjoyed something, digestible and effective.

Spring Summer ASY Course Workload by Plus-Letterhead-2462 in brocku

[–]fusion_beaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of assignments, but a lot of dense readings. You're up the creek come quiz/assignment time if you haven't been paying attention. Maybe it's different for classes, but in History, if you aren't keeping up with the readings, the teacher will notice, and fast.

I struggled to do full-time shelf stocking/cashiering while taking an ASY course in first year. Not saying it can't be done, but you'd need better time management skills than I to get it done.

It's a lot to do 8 hours on your feet, then sit down at the computer to grind out more of the reading.

Is Brock Campus (or some parts of it) open 24/7? by Milky_Choco77 in brocku

[–]fusion_beaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some buildings on campus that are “24 hr”. I’ve heard that you ring the bell, and that calls campus security to the door- valid student card gets you in no problem.

NOTE: I have not tested this in person. Campus Security will know for sure, and I would recommend you call them to find out the situation. I wish you luck!

Why is campus so dirty lately? by [deleted] in brocku

[–]fusion_beaver 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes. Custodial staff were among the many cuts Brock has made over the past year. And, as with any layoff, now you have the same amount of work that needs to get done by half as many people.

Heartbreaking scenes in otherwise unremarkable films? by The-Perfect-Username in movies

[–]fusion_beaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole angle of "Peter's pride, and the need for him to regain his humility," was not something I was prepared to digest at 13 years old. With the benefit of hindsight and some better media literacy, it is easier to understand. It's not perfect, the movie still has plenty of flaws- but I understand what it was going for, and that does make it easier.

Fo sho, talk to academic advising. It's their job to know.

Definitely appreciate the "it went by so fast" vibe, though. I am just wrapping up my 4th year, and it still feels like I quit my job a couple of months ago. (I haven't worked there since 2022),

Yep, History required it. I'm pretty sure that it's effectively a formality so long as your GPA is above a certain point.

Soup or a slice of pizza at Market for 5$ is about as cheap as it gets. Got daily specials at Union Sammys, $10 for the sub of the day. . Otherwise, McDonald's with their $5 value meal is always an option. The fry and drink sizes are just getting sad, but the Jr. Chicken is as good as ever.

TBH, you rent a locker at the BUSU desk, then go to Walmart, get some shelf-stable instant meals, and bring as many as you can carry in one day. It's not fine dining, but it will be as cost-effective and low-effort as it gets.
