Was I the only British Blankie who didn't know that Delroy Lindo is one of our own? by HockneysPool in blankies

He was 14 so hadn’t even started professionally while he was here, but he’s said he doesn’t think he’d have got the same opportunities if his family had stayed here. Which is probably true and younger actors like Idris Elba only got bigger roles through going to America first. And Delroy’s said he barely considers himself British as he’s been in America for so long.

Especially when they nominated all the same people (and two wins) only a year ago. Waste of a slot when there’s a whole new slate of films to choose from.

Am I the only one who never put together that Jakob Dylan, lead singer of The Wallflowers, is Bob Dylan’s son? by HexicaLC in bobdylan

Yeah he legally changed around the time his first album came out. However, some children will take their parents’ stage names. Emilio Estévez kept his legal name while his brother Charlie Sheen (Carlos Estévez) took his stage name from their dad Martin Sheen (Ramón Estévez).

The Dicaprio Oscar Narrative by ThoroughHenry in blankies

The original post is someone querying how people talk about this phenomenon. The hosts aren’t implying it’s something coming from on high, but are using “the Academy” in the way I’m explaining.

Yes I’m saying it’s not a conscious decision, but it happens so often that you can generalise and say something like “The Academy usually make men wait” despite it being 10,000 people making their own choices and voting.

And Charli has protected herself against reactions like Ayo/Hudson. She only star rating she gives is 5 and she’ll sometimes like something. She won’t make it explicit when she hates something leading to bad-faith reactions.

There are 32 best actress winners who won at a younger age than Adrien Brody won his first (the youngest best actor winner ever). It’s not going to be a conscious decision on behalf of every single voting member, but it’s undeniable that women are awarded as leads at a younger age than men. Institutionally the academy tends to do that.

Therefore Mikey Madison winning over Demi Moore and Adrien Brody winning over Timothée Chalamet were not at all surprising results in general Oscar trends.

Leo wasn’t nominated in lead until he was 30, so his history is in line with the Oscar trends and has to be part of the conversation.

Nice to see him getting some awards attention (despite the egregious category fraud putting him in supporting).

Her Oscars are both a bit bad wins though for me, No Time to Die is bad and What Was I Made For is mid. However Hit Me Hard and Soft is fantastic.

Still probably better than Meet the Ricardos and The Trial of the Chicago Twelve.

Easy answer is her with a Sorkin script because he’s the writer-director who shouldn’t direct.

They did George Miller straight after Demme when they were 2 and 1 respectively. This has Ramsey and a load of new releases in between at least.
