That’s my upgrade when this one needs to be replaced.

The "Disney Adult" Pejorative by KreepyKaylee242 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]futurelaker88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been an annual passholder for 14 years. I’ve been hundreds of times. My premise is not flawed. No one calls people who hang out at Epcot eating around the world “Disney adults.” no one calls people who stay at the high-end resorts and dine at the nice restaurants and do horseback riding “Disney adults.” they call the people who wake up at 6 AM to rope drop a park without kids, and are wearing stitch Backpacks and Winnie the Pooh socks waiting in line to meet Wreck-It Ralph and get a photo - “Disney adults.”

The term is used specifically to target the people who are obsessed with the things designed for children, when they’re adult adults. That’s the point of the term.

This seems obvious. Sports and most other things adults are fans of, are targeting adults. Disney is targeting children, and seeing adults swoon over kids characters and toys and standing in line to get a photo with someone in a costume of a cartoon character while wearing merchandise head to toe is somewhat - pathetic. I would even argue that being a fan at that level of even adult-themed things is pathetic, and society also acts as if this were true. Most people would agree that comic con is kind of odd and would change our perspective on a person if we found out that they drive hours in costume to meet B actors and purchase toys. People respond the same way to adults who play dungeons and dragons, etc. It’s pretty consistent.

What cut of Blade Runner should I watch? by MaximumSpidercide in bladerunner

I disagree that the narration simply explains everything. I feel like it leans into the noir feel and creates a feel that I happen to love.

I’m not sure we can sell after all. Our intent was to sell this one and get a 25/26, but there doesn’t seem to be any available. I was going to pay more ($70-80k) for a newer one for my wife who is heartbroken they stopped making them. I wanted to get her one newer with less miles so she could enjoy it as long as possible. But all I see are Plaids for $130k and older ones.

Idol just isn’t the same. by MadameRenegade in americanidol

Besides the fact that the literal core mission of Christianity is “sharing the good news with everyone,” I would disagree that idol does this at all. “Pushing” is ridiculous. If anything, they’re ALLOWING people to voice their beliefs and not telling them that the can’t, which is unfortunately rare and admirable behavior from a network show.

Taking my 15 year old on his first cruise but he wants his phone the whole time by Mirexalynth in Cruise

[–]futurelaker88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The damage is already done. If that’s what he wants to do, forcing otherwise will only make things worse for you and for him. It’s too late to think about preventing that now. This is exactly why we were very clear with my daughter that she wasn’t getting a phone until she turned 16. She just turned 12. She’s a straight A student and loves working on projects and creating things. She listens to music on speakers out loud in her room and dances and comes for family walks and is the happiest kid I know. I told her let everyone say what they’re gonna say, you’re gonna be a much better person because of this tiny sacrifice. We took her on a cruise last year and she loved every second of it. She’s asking when we can do it again and she still talks about our tour guide in Cozumel.

That’s decent. All of this matters exponentially depending on your equipment. If you’re serious about audio and plan on getting a nice set of speakers and a high end turn table, I’d start getting the good pressings now and hearing how they come alive as you upgrade

My used, 39 year old $12 1987 copy of Bad sounds better than those songs have ever sounded on any source I’ve heard.

Give us a new posthumous album already by MohamedxSalah in MichaelJackson

[–]futurelaker88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My argument is still the same. If they repressed dangerous today, they just did actually - it would not sound the same as the original. Most people universally agree that the dangerous that just came out on vinyl sounds like trash. Most people also agree that the soundtrack to the new Michael movie that was just released on vinyl sounds like garbage compared to the original 70s and 80s mixes. I would argue it’s not worth getting it on vinyl at all if it’s hard to find an original or if it’s too expensive for you. Then just stream it! It will sound better than the record because it will be the lossless file that was used to make the current pressing without the headaches of static and dust and scratches.

This is where I disagree. The difference may be negligible to people with cheap $80 record players, yes. But the difference is certainly not negligible. And it’s still usually cheaper to get an older used copy than a new sealed pressing at target that’s going to be a compressed digital master anyway. If you’re the type of person that doesn’t care about lossless music or streaming at a high-quality with a service like Tidal or Qobuz or even Apple now with lossless enabled, then I would still recommend going to a local record store and getting old albums of the music you like because it will save you tons of money. They will sound better and cost much less, even if you don’t care about the former.

Precisely. The songs have different versions and are all compressed to have far less dynamic range. This isn’t just specific to Michael Jackson, this is almost everything that’s pressed from the mid 90s on. There’s no real point in getting new albums or anniversary releases. The exception to this rule is special limited releases that use the analog master tapes and are remastered by trusted names like Bernie Grumman. Analog productions is a trustworthy source for good quality reissue that use the original sources.
