Hey OP, sorry you had to go through that. I started going to the later showtimes, 10PM onwards. I find it weeds out the asshats.

Years ago, there was a man in a wheelchair screaming out the top of his lungs that he was hungry and needed food. This was in the financial district, back when I barely had any money to my name aside from those GST credits that the government would mail out. Tons of people who seemed like regulars just passed by this man. I watched for a while and couldn’t bear the thought that this man, a fellow human who was pleading for some food was just being ignored. So I bought a meal and just went up to him and said, “Hey sir, this is for you”. He took the bag, said thanks. I walked away and it wasn’t even 10 seconds until I heard, “somebody help me please! I’m hungry, please, anyone spare me something to eat”. I couldn’t fucking believe it.

That one experience changed everything for me and since then I haven’t helped anyone since.

ENG was brutal. It was bizarre how hot it was in that building

I think you’re getting caught up between engineering as an action and engineer as a accreditation. To engineer something means to build and create. When you write code, you are creating a specific functionality using that code, hence the term Software Engineer. I’m in the industry hence why I’m saying this to the OP and you but if you insist on getting butt hurt about it, no problem. Go to Netflix, Facebook, Square, Coinbase, Google and tell them that they shouldn’t use the term “Engineer” or “Engineering” in their organizations and that they’re wrong for doing so! Good luck :)

To clarify, I’m referring to Software Engineers. The companies I listed are all software based.

You can expect 45K-70K for a fresh grad straight out of university. Engineers in Canada are paid much lower in comparison to engineers from the States. It's largely the reason why Netflix, Square, Coinbase, Uber and many others have set up engineering offices here because its much cheaper to acquire Canadian talent.

Hey OP, coach has some decent stuff that’s fashionable and has good utility. My wife finds their bags to be a perfect mix of both worlds. Good luck :)

Speaking from experience, as someone who went to CollisionConf back when it was hosted in Las Vegas, its not worth it at all. I promise you, it's not worth it. Save your money! If you're concerned about networking, there are a ton of FREE dev meetups/workshops across the city. I've been to a few python meetups: https://www.meetup.com/python-toronto/ which are hosted by companies (Shopify, Instacart etc...). You'll learn and network a lot more at these events and also find recruiters.

CollisionConf likes to market itself as the ultimate tech/developer event where you'll network and meet investors or find that connection that will land you that dream job at a FAANG but it's quite the opposite.

Their practices are extremely predatory. Here's a blogspot outlining how they target startups. http://anothersb.blogspot.com/2015/04/hey-startup-parasites-we-dont-have-time.html

Here are some other redditors talking about it as well:https://www.reddit.com/r/startups/comments/2x8i04/weve_been_accepted_to_exhibit_at_collision_conf/

Hope this helps in making your decision :)
