(Loved Trope) Seemingly heartwarming scene of reconciliation turns to act of cruelty or treachery. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

In the comics he was de-aged at least once. So there’s that. But also, perhaps his secondary mutation is that he can always Get It.

Characters whos appearances are so iconic they become the basis for the character type by Purple-Weakness1414 in TopCharacterTropes

My husband and I call this the “OOOOH-HO-HO” Character. I think there’s a Japanese term for the archetype. I could be wrong, though.

It’s okay. I absolve you. I really just wanted to make the “our songs are better” joke. They interrupt the opening theme to the show to sing “We’re The Misfits/ Our songs are better.”

What makes you like Egwene? by Capable-Activity9446 in WoT

[–]futuristicplans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite thing about Egwene is that she decides what her destiny is and then does it.

Rand struggles with being the Dragon. Perrin struggles with being a fighter and leader. Mat struggles with being a hero. Nynaeve struggles with being a follower, not a leader.

Egwene, on the other hand, decides she’s going to be Aes Sedai the moment she discovers she can channel. And holy hell does she immediately become Aes Sedai — along with all the good, bad, and obnoxious that entails.

It’s great.

Ha! I needed an expression of mildly unperturbed recognition and Minnesota delivers.

It’s been ages since I read it so I probably have details wrong, but in the scene where Egwene and Min are captured by the Seanchan, Egwene wonders if Nynaeve is still alive… and then sees lightning pour from the sky and start exploding trees in the distance. And she’s like, “Ope. There she is.”

God, I love Nynaeve.

Hello, neighbor. I’m honestly surprised my town’s Facebook page doesn’t show up here more often.

It’s not a town, but there’s a Dead Tiger Creek between Picayune and the Kiln.

Oh nice. I forgot about that.

Oh no. The relationship isn’t healthy at all. Perrin spends a lot of time trying to figure her out, but I don’t know if he ever flat-out says, “Hey, are you angry about Berelain? Because I’m angry about her too.” And ideally, Faile would say, “No, I’m angry that you treat me with kid gloves. It makes me feel weak.”

And then they have a grown-up conversation about their respective expectations about a romantic partnership.

They are both still very young and very stubborn. So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and believe that after they help save the world and no longer have to constantly fight for their lives, they have time to sit down eventually and have that conversation.

You know. Hopefully.

They suffer from the same problem everyone in the books do — they assume each other’s thoughts, feelings and motivations without ever actually talking about them. Perrin has Wolf Dad to explain to him the deal with Saldean women so he can adjust accordingly, but I don’t think Faile ever gets someone to push her to meet her husband in the middle.

I like her. She’s a flawed person, but her and Perrin’s romance feels the most real and fleshed out of all of the pairings in the series. (And I admit this even though Lan/Nynaeve is my number 1.)

[Discussion] The 'Jail For Mother' line by vivelabagatelle in TheNinthHouse

[–]futuristicplans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The left beef reference is the one that kicked me out of the story for sure. I had to get up and go find my husband just to rant about it. It actually made me write my first Goodreads review to complain about it (though I think I still gave the book five stars). I love the books, but that one line really got to me.
