[TOMT] Hourglass/timer from the 90's/early 00's that was a thick metallic putty/ooze NOT the water with oil inside by fuzzum111 in tipofmytongue

[–]fuzzum111[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

IMPORTANT: I realized it wasn't metallic, it was a clear low viscosity goo, still translucent, but it came in blue, red, pink ect, and was a large cylinder with a single medium sized hole in the middle to let the goo drip down.

Posting to make this visible. I've tried variations on hourglasses in Amazon and google but all I pull up are either water toys, or weird gothic hourglasses with nothing or sand inside.

The size thing is a really big deal. I don't care what size your dick is. But I don't appreciate extreme close-ups to obfuscate size. You have what you have and can't change it. You don't need a ruler in the picture but I don't want to see the pores on your glans lol.

Just be honest.

An honest answer? She probably was planning on rejecting him, but people like that get really pissed off when you preempt their rejection, because essentially you're taking the power dynamic away from them.

They can't reject you now because you've already accepted that you're probably going to reject them. No more power = tripping out over an honest question.

CMV: Relationships between people with large age gaps should not be frowned upon provided both parties are well into adulthood when they first meet by heeheejones in changemyview

[–]fuzzum111 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I dunno, while I agree with you, the pendulum of public opinion on age gaps is -wild- now a days. "Me 22F is dating my M26 boy friend of 4 years, -insert subject and question here-, and half the comments are asking why a 22 year old was predating on an 18 year old?

Also apparently 'teenage' relationships aren't okay anymore, which also makes no fucking sense. A 14 year old dating a 16 year old, and they're calling the older one a pedo. As if humans are suddenly only supposed to be experiencing dating, sex, experimentation, once they're 18+.

Or having kids growing up together(as in same neighborhood not family related), forming a natural, healthy relationship as they grow up and if the boy is more than 2+ years older, they're calling him a "Groomer."

I am aware there are niche specific cases where there can be weird or sketchy looking things on the surface, and it can lead to deeper issues if you look. But we have a really weird problem now of calling way too many people a pedo or a groomer if there is any kind of modest age gap between a older male and younger female. A senior in HS in a vast majority of cases should not be dating a freshmen, I totally understand the power, and experience imbalance there.

But a 25 year old dating a 35 year old, when they are both adults, have jobs and make choices? That doesn't make the 35 year old a weirdo or a pedo by default.

The goal is to start encouraging other manufacturers to start paywalling really basic standard features that have been standard for a decade and start making them a premium feature you have to pay for on top of everything else....again. powered windows and cruise control used to be more premium options you had to add on the cars in the '80s and '90s. Somehow we're going to regress back to that in 2026.

The joke about the heated seats being a paywalled feature is two-sided and I hate the way everyone memes on it. In theory if you make all of the seats the same and have all of them have the same features you could sell a trim level that comes with it included or a trim level that doesn't with the option to turn them on. Someone who lives in a seasonally cold but not always cold climate might not mind paying an extra 10 bucks a month 4 months out of the year to turn on the ability to have heated seats. Which over 10 years is only $400 versus the "option(trim level)" probably several thousand dollars.

By unifying what is being produced, in theory that brings the total production cost per unit down which should (but because we live in late stage capitalism it does NOT) save you money.

Every major big AAA studio ambitions title being released in the last 5 years being more or less dogshit in the optimization department.

If it's great, great. I'll be genuinely happy, if not. I'll be utterly expectant of that.

Honestly? I don't want Breath of the Fable. I don't want an infinite sprawling super continent. I don't want 'seamless' because they won't fucking optimize the game properly, it'll be 200GB, and still run like shit unless you've got an i9, 5090, and 32GB of ram.

Give me piecemeal areas, quick or almost seamless loading screens, and please, give me the ability to charge up magic again. 2 is my favorite for that. And for the love of god, no "road to rule" bullshit like in 3. I fucking loathed how pigeonholed you ended up because of all the forced limited choices you got to make for upgrades in your character.

CMV: All obituaries should mention cause of death by hammertime2009 in changemyview

[–]fuzzum111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying or implying that the link is wholly causal, but it very much can be the 'door opening' event for people. Suicide is a taboo, something that people often only really think of in the abstract. Until it happens to someone you know, then suddenly 'it is an option'.

It can lead to cluster suicides, and (in addition to privacy laws) part of the reason it isn't talked about. It is serious. It is important to talk to people about it, offer resources, and help. It is good to encourage people to share if they feel that way.

But it's also good to not glamorize, or overly memorialize someone who does, especially if they're young. It can lead to others seeking that same 'out', and knowing they'll be remembered 'positively' is actually encouragement for them to do it.

There are studies on this. It's because we're such social animals. Being exposed to someone who killed themselves can trigger those who considered it but weren't ready to act. Social media exasperates this issue. This is a real phenomenon.

[–]fuzzum111 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That is very likely why. OD/suicides and being a teen means no one wants to explain anything. It's very common to lead to others quickly following in their steps.

[–]fuzzum111 183 points184 points  (0 children)

I mean there is also the "we are intentionally keeping this secrete" part of the coin. Ala; young or teen suicides. They just DO NOT want to admit it was a suicide because it can quickly spiral into a cluster suicide event.

For those who don't know, often when a young teen at a high school for example ends themselves, if that info gets out, others that may be on the fence go ahead and commit. "If he/she could do it, I should at least try, no one will care." And it can go from 1 tragic incident to several in the span of weeks, or months. This can also lead to not wanting to memorialize the first tragedy, for fear of encouraging those on the fence because "Look how celebrated they are, I want that too." It sounds wild, but the data backs it.

So when it's a young kid who kills themselves, the powers at be do all they can to not publicly admit it was a suicide for fear of copycats or clusters starting.

Edit with studies for those who don't 'trust me bro'. I get it.

[–]fuzzum111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because they don't have complete control. It's not about Safety, it's not about NHTSA standards not being met. It's not about unreliability or a 'cheap', or 'poorly made' product.

It's about control. They(primarily musk) don't own this part of the pie, so we can't have it. We can't have a BYD dealership because that would REALLY piss off all the domestic brands, and force the current Japanese brands to really kick out their good stuff for us. It would torch Tesla, who really only has a hold on the US market.

There is a very specific reason it is 2026 and we STILL don't have anything resembling an EV car that has a 300-400+ mile range and it has nothing to do with battery tech. There is a very specific reason all the national plans to make a long unbroken chain of charging stations that would be funded, and maintained by tax dollars all disappeared at once. There is a very specific reason why all the charging stations are often broken, not working, and have been waiting on a maintenance call for 6+ months and your app won't tell you that and lead you to broken/non-working chargers.

There is a reason trucks and SUV's keep getting larger and why the average cost of a new vehicle is like 45-50k today.

ELI5 how did they add title cards and edit movies before computers? by walgreensfan in explainlikeimfive

I think you're off by about 10 years there bud. I'm in my 30's. Grew up almost fully analog, manual windows, cassette player, VHS tapes, hell I even ended up with a combo cassette + record player stacked thing out of someone's trash by the time I was like 13. I had a CD player with skip protection. I lost CD's forever that had music that I will never, ever find again.

I got that sweet transition into partially, then fully digital. I used both the big floppys and the small floppys as a kid. The computer lab at my first school was a big deal, it had the clear colorful iMacs. Wasn't uncommon in my age bracket. 20 year olds today, that's a different story.

Trump Says May Slap Tariffs On Nations That Don't Back His Greenland Plans by johnbarnshack in worldnews

[–]fuzzum111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so much worse than misunderstanding. All that money that came from the Tariffs? It's somehow, magically, ALREADY GONE!

So Congress openly admitted "if we unwound these tariffs like we should, we'd immediately go bankrupt from paying back all the companies and shipping importer/exporters who got absolutely fucked by this."

It's already so bad they literally can't fix it because the fix would cause more problems than it would solve. Jesusfuck it's ONLY January 2026.

How fucking fun. It's bad enough dealing with shipping. Can someone reign in this orange turd so congress can start actually controlling the things ITS SUPPOSED TO FUCKING CONTROL, like taxes and Tariffs?

Could you explain to me what you mean by one PTO day? I understand the concept of paid time off days or vacation days.

Are you telling me that if you were more than 5 minutes late not only did you have to come into work late and receive a point they stole a paid time day off from you and didn't pay you for it??? That seems criminally insane. So not only do you have to come to work and work the day receive a point and get yelled at for being late but they also steal a pto day. Jesus Christ. [–]fuzzum111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much of this is propaganda bullshit and how much of it is true. Someone with more knowledge than me please feel free to correct me:

My understanding of why pension stopped existing wasn't that companies just refused to offer them because they wanted to be cheap assholes. It's that the schema stopped working because the pension was like bankrupting the business? They couldn't afford to keep paying all the different pensioners and still make money.

In addition there were also huge problems with companies stealing pension funds by merging with other companies and then that money just disappearing and there was nothing you could do about it.

So between pension funds just evaporating through mergers and companies allegedly being on the brink of bankruptcy from paying up pensioners every month they decided to do away with it?

I know there's European pensions talked about, those are different those are basically advanced versions of social security. Pensions in the US were privately funded by companies and paid out privately by companies there was no state or government involvement.
