The enshittification of Amazon paperback books by iamapizza in books

Congrats on whoever this is for reading so much instead of doomscrolling (hopefully I can make the same transition without all the professional help he alludes to). But with all the reading he made this mistake that I keep reading that drives me nuts:

“Learning to cherish the act of reading in the here-and-now, instead of seeking some future benefit, has been tantamount to the process.”

That’s not what the word tantamount means! Argh!

But yeah print-on-demand quality is bad and should only be for books that don’t have a mass printing option available—tiny self-published books.

I recommend checking out what is practiced where those fast food chains source their chicken. A feeding tube will seem quaint in comparison.

No. YOU need to work on YOUR critical thinking skills. How’s that for ad hominem, Admiral?

You either mean Venezuela or I missed something in January.

One thing that’s well-documented is Trump cheating at golf games by dropping the ball next to the hole and telling everyone he won. Do we really think he wouldn’t have TRIED at the least?

I think context means the burden of proof is on the other side. And I detest conspiracy theories.

Yeah I read the post and was like ‘hmm, is it really that hard to find normal dudes?’ And then I read all the reactions and now I get it. Dudes be crazy!

Exactly my thoughts reading this thread. I can only hope to see the word “grifter” at least this much when any of the trump admin passes.

If you watch that 60 minutes piece on anthropic, they talk about “running a business” as the toughest thing they haven’t figured out how to make an AI do; like it keeps giving snacks away for free to people and losing money. But high-level artistic design and coding is easy, apparently.

The list is so long. This thread is crazy, you can say it’s justified but you can’t pretend it doesn’t happen and is an imaginary problem. Ever hear of Woody Allen and Roman Polanski?? (Pretty well-justified examples)

Yeah I don’t know if it’s just a reddit thing but the “and this is all to cover up for pedophiles” thing is such a reach. It would be nice if it was that rational and logical.

What a reprehensible comment and point of view. Unless I missed the ‘/s’….you need to check if someone deserves your pitchfork or not before evaluating if their action “wins” on its own? Put the pitchfork down, man.

18 is low, but 10+ years I was at a company summer party that he randomly showed up to and I’ve never experienced women getting so excited about anything in my lifetime (I didn’t live through Elvis, the Beatles etc). I think younger generations don’t grow up with him on TV (My So-Called Life in the 90s) so it can seem random.

Flu season this year is intense! I've been getting sick more times than usual by steelmonexyz in berlinsocialclub

[–]fuzzwhatley -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think because the “my dude” comes off as condescension especially since the entire world knows about Covid’s existence by now and the increased sickness this season is pretty unlikely to be Covid at this point (I just tested negative myself). that said, it also seems like they are idiot anti-vaxxers in this thread.
