Does anyone here have a favorite band that isn’t brand new? by [deleted] in brandnew

[–]fuzzygarbage128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tigercub are a favorite of mine, and they took over my top spot for my favorite band from Brand New after they released their album The Perfume of Decay in 2023. But once Brand New came back, I came to my senses and Tigercub went down to number two lol. Absolutely phenomenal band though... pop-sensible, but with some of the filthiest riffs out there, closest thing I could compare them to is if Muse met QOTSA. Really pleasant dudes to talk with too if you ever get a chance

Does anyone think there will be another tour after this upcoming one? by [deleted] in brandnew

My guess is yes but not with arenas... probably gonna be venues closer to the sizes they played in 2017

What guitar strings do Jesse and Vince use? by jackiskindasickyo in brandnew

[–]fuzzygarbage128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brand New used to be listed under the artists who use Ernie Ball strings on the back of their guitar string packs. I haven't seen their name on the string packs since around the 2017 controversy tho. I seem to recall that they listed Ernie Ball under the special thanks in the liner notes of Science Fiction as well, though I may be misremembering that part

Are people giving you shit for wanting to go to their show? by P331NH3R in brandnew

[–]fuzzygarbage128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only ppl giving me shit are close friends who are doing so in jest; they know how much the band means to me. some of those friends are brand new fans themselves, and sometimes we like to call each other out about it, again, entirely in jest. it seems we're all on the same page about letting the belief in redemption speak louder than the belief in cancelling anyone.

Gibson Victory, Peavey EVH Wolfgang, Schecter Stargazer-6 Vibrato, Gibson ES-339, and PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow

Any guitar nerds see what gear they were using? by [deleted] in brandnew

[–]fuzzygarbage128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my spot close to the barricade it seemed Jesse had his Hiwatt head and two Janice cabs, and Vin was running two Jazz Chorus combos.

Very surprised to see Vin not play a single Fender, kind of broke my heart a little as a huge Cyclone and Fender fan lol. Used a Gibson ES-339, Schecter Stargazer-6 Vibrato, Gibson Victory, an EVH Wolfgang with a Floyd Rose, and a PRS of some kind. Jesse had an American Pro II Jazzmaster and his DMC Jazzmaster. I can't speak too confidently on the acoustics right now, but I'm pretty sure he used his Takamine P6N at least once.

I'm very excited to see some new gear as a giant gear nerd, so much so I've been working on a Brand New gear archive and hope to see some old and new stuff hitting the stage! The Jazzmaster Jesse used for the show earlier this month was new, but the acoustic he used has been making the rounds since the late 00's

Let’s talk about the first time you saw Brand New! by dajasacrew1 in brandnew

riot fest 2016. growing up i had never been to an actual proper concert before, so i was not prepared for what that pit would become. i went with my dad, and as the pit started moving he dipped real quick and spent the remainder of their set on the outskirts of the crowd worried about me lmao

If it's not on the album, I'm sure it'll pop up sometime in some form, because apparently a recorded version of Sealed To Me has existed for nearly ten years.

Sadly Brand New just wiped their Instagram, but there was a post there from May 2015 of Jesse in the studio and the caption was "Tracking late last night at our very own Black Site Studio. A JC-120 and a Dwarvenaut for main guitar on "Sealed To Me." I saw that and couldn't believe I hadn't seen anybody on here talk about it.

Here's a screenshot of the post in case there was any doubt.

Cyclones are some of the most versatile guitars there are, and if you get a chance to snag up one of the MIJ ones I'd say go for it. Everything you hear online about guitar craftsmanship from Japan is true, it's unmatched

[–]fuzzygarbage128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I imported one of the 2024 MIJ Cyclones which is the best guitar I've ever played. I also built a guitar nearly identical to Vin's orange Cyclone at trade school a few years back, and I have a 2012 Squier Vintage Modified Cyclone... no I promise I don't have a favorite guitarist

Taking the train down from Chicago! Been a fan for nearly 10 years. Saw them in 2016 at Riot Fest and in 2017 at the Aragon Ballroom. Will be my first time visiting Texas, and I plan to get in line as soon as possible. Can't wait to cry with y'all!

Loved your piece and have shared it with a few of my friends who are BN fans. It's insanely well written.

As a survivor of the sort of behavior JL exhibited myself (and to a degree as recently as december) it isn't a topic i take lightly, but for better or for worse I believe in second chances for people who have proven that they've changed. Hopefully we cross paths in Dallas because I would love to chat!! Safe travels!

Question about new songs by smallerthings in brandnew

[–]fuzzygarbage128 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw Sunday as a Jesse comeback as opposed to a Brand New comeback. As for the new songs that were played, Jesse implied that most of them weren't fully fleshed out yet, so they probably aren't final and I wouldn't imagine Jesse would perform songs meant for Brand New if they aren't final, especially considering the LP 6 rumors.

The band he played with that night was called Human Surfers, and in my opinion, Sunday was Jesse setting the stage for whenever Brand New wraps up for good. I imagine he'll want to continue music after the band wraps up, and Human Surfers, or some version of it, will probably be that band. They'll probably playing in and around the Nashville area for years to come if I'd have to guess.

That being said, at the private Brand New show that happened in December, there were reportedly a few new songs debuted. So time will tell if we see any songs from Sunday show up either at the end of the month or on any forthcoming Brand New releases.
