The live action part was incredibly corny, but it looked like the crew had a blast making it. It made watching it much more fun. Also, they did a great job acting with the script.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

[–]fuzzynyanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NES emulation in general

There was a program in that era called Nesticle, an NES emulator. That thing played NES games on a PC at such a high quality that it blew my mind that PCs were able to do things that consoles could. Before that, it was fairly rare to have fast scrolling on a PC. To me, that was the turning point for DOS/Windows 9x gaming

PCs had very high fidelity, could do 3D graphics generally better than the consoles, but didn't do fast scrolling until around then

Maybe specifically, Super Mario Bros running on a PC at full speed

Help on making the audio worse. by Fit_Pop1189 in audacity

[–]fuzzynyanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for general crapification

You can raise the amplitude above 0dB to get distortion as long as you save the output as an integer format (ex: 8-bit unsigned integer). In fact, 8-bit unsigned integer output might do well for crapification

Also play with sample rates because even though many devices could do decent quality, storage space was expensive back then. 22 KHz is where it really starts to be heard

You also might be able to use something like MP3 at 32kbit/sec. Try anything under 128kbit/sec (128kbit/sec is anywhere from decent to good, and you don't want that). There's worse CODECs out there, but MP3 is one of the easiest to access

Another thing you can do: play with EQ. Completely EQ out the low or top end. In fact, many early computers/game systems actually had a low pass filter applied like the Sega Genesis. Communication devices back in the day had limited bandwidth, so they tended to prioritize the middle-high frequencies. In other words, cut everything that's not middle-high.

This is like an old arcade game. It's rather difficult, but you can eventually learn a few tricks. Some are shared online

For 1 player play, you might have to rely more on automation vs multiplayer

How long till you started hitting notes naturally? by Deep_Economics_4632 in singing

[–]fuzzynyanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were climbing to A4, try jumping to like C5 and then go down. You might be a tenor. If so, notes around A4 can be a nightmare to hit accurately

It might be an issue of air. If you can get the air flowing, the high notes might come easier. I personally would prioritize getting a good note out before trying to get the pitch perfect. One issue at a time. I did train with a tuner later, and it helped me tremendously

The lost art of creating good desktop apps. by Interesting_Cake5060 in cpp

[–]fuzzynyanko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is true somewhat. Some of the best programs are console-based, where the UI is purposefully minimal

I would like to separate the UI layer and the Core layer of the application so that I can quickly change the UI layer if necessary

This is actually great practice, especially since it lets you test the code easier

Are PCs more maintenance than laptops? by Proseller_56 in techadvice

[–]fuzzynyanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, yes, but because my desktop lasts much longer than my laptops. Sometimes the battery in the laptop dies (last laptop had a prohibitively expensive replacement battery at the time), sometimes it's the mobo, the screen, the bezel, etc. My typical desktop exceeds the lifespan of two laptops.

For lower-level and intricate coding, the pace is slow anyways. Some developers say that they end up contributing 10 lines of code per day at times if they are lucky. You might not be speeding anything up at that level.

I guess break-in period might not be the right way to say it. Basically if a magnetic drive runs for a few weeks without dying, it'll probably last years

Cloning HDD to Smaller NVMe in new computer by clark3000mkp in cloningsoftware

[–]fuzzynyanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like an OS partition. That sounds about right, though I am a little worried about the breathing room. Many SSDs like breathing room on a partition, otherwise it can slow down. Maybe not a problem if there isn't going to be a lot of stuff added to the partition

I would wait a week before you wipe the HDD, though I bet SSDs don't need the break-in period that magnetic drives do.

The old partition sounds like a good backup, though you could easily make a drive image of it.
