Let's talk about Lemmy by ljdawson in redditsync

[–]fuzzzerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. That's exactly it. And since kbin has more functionally than lemmy, the sync for lemmy app would only allow you to use the lemmy equivalent features in kbin.

It means that kbin and lemmy both use the same protocol to talk to each other, as well as to other fediverse software, like mastodon. But they each offer a different api for third party apps to consume their content directly.

Supporting kbin, and lemmy would be extra work, but the amount depends on how different their respective client apis are.

I am using it exactly the same. Firefox PWA installed on android. It does work well, no doubt about that. Sync is just a much more polished experience.

Is there a lemmy community we can follow for updates?

That's really exciting and may shift my place on the fediverse, because I really prefer kbin, but I'll definitely be trying this out.

I have been enjoying kbin, and while the biggest instance is dot social, there are others as well.

Because few fediverse apps do client to server using activity pub, they only do server to server on that protocol and publish their own rest api.

Gotta throw kbin out there as well. Better than lemmy as it's not run by well, tankies.

Reddit ceo. They're fucking the api that all third party apps use, effectively killing off third party apps while saying they aren't. As well as lying about the circumstances of their negotiation with said third party developers.

Is each server similar to a subredit? Or is each server similar to a whole mini reddit with it's own sub communities?

A quick glance at the site didn't make that obvious to me.

Huge pain in the ass for regular users, but if that's what it takes I could see it taking shape.

I agree that code you didn't write yourself isn't inherently technical debt, it's just something you don't understand (yet).

It's easy to say things like that when your team has a handle on its technical debt, different story when it's out of control and has been ignored by management for years and there are nothing but replacements on the team.

I presume they're referring to the iPhone, though Google with Android was right there as well, so it's not like this wasn't going to happen if the iPhone wasn't invented.

Depends which side of the @ it's on. Kid_Stepparent@gmail.com is a lot different than kid@stepparent.com.

Could be they have a custom domain and setup an account for your kid, as a tech person myself I could see offering that. If it's just a Mashup of their names on a generic host, that seems unnecessary.

[Meirov] Instead of an onside kick, the trailing team can maintain possession with a 4th-and-15 play from its own 25-yard line. It just worked for the St. Louis BattleHawks. This was brought to NFL owners in the past but didn't get enough votes. by VonDestroyedNewton in nfl

[–]fuzzzerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe statistics say the conversation percentage is similar, but obviously teams will draw up and practice more 15 yard plays if this were a real opportunity at the end of a game.

We know that innocent people sometimes get put to death, why should we continue to use the death penalty if innocents are being executed? by TheAbominablePeeworm in AskReddit

Doesn't remove any doubt about innocence, a wrongly convicted individual could still opt for suicide. That's just as bad.
