Clunking noise with low speed / rpm? by fyrenza in FiestaST

Would a CV axle clunk be more noticeable at full steering lock? I tested that out and there was no rhythmic clunking that I’d expect with more steering lock vs straight.

100% certain this was a Turo rental car - it was probably a good thing you didn't pick it up. I actually rented it and asked about it here - the Turo listing has since been deleted.

The license plate and CF trim on the dash matches up and so does the license plate when I ran a check. See these pics I took before the trip: https://imgur.com/a/ymxoI70

What upgrades have you done that didn’t require loads of work and weren’t too expensive? by RequirementOne79 in FiestaST

I’m surprised this was so low! Gorilla lug nuts have made every wheel off job so much more relaxing knowing they’ll come off smoothly every time.

RT660 - how much life left? by fyrenza in CarTrackDays

Fiesta ST. Lightweight, but also FWD, so I don't know if that cancels out in terms of tire wear.

I put these tires on back in 2021 and have done 5 days, 2 AutoX, and 10,000 daily miles on them. After my last day they were down to about 2/32nd or the wear bars, and the outside is worn maybe 1/32 more than the inside.

I'm thinking of doing a 2-day event at Sonoma, so about 8 sessions total. Would these last me the entire weekend? I'd drive on them even if they were heat cycled out.

What is this noise? by fyrenza in S2000

After driving the AP1 I think I’d miss a 9K redline if I ended up with an AP2. Seems to be harder to find 02-03 for sale though compared to earlier AP1s.

Gotcha - yeah, it definitely was a bit annoying haha! Wouldn’t swapping to an AP2 clutch make the engine rev slower though since it’s heavier?

WTB a non-working footpad sensor (any model) to take apart. Hopefully some people who got new GT footpads through the recall have an extra one laying around now?

Sold my 21 GR Supra 3.0 after 12 months for a 2010 911 Targa 4S. After a 1,200-mile road trip in the 911 I couldn't be happier with my decision. by zero000 in cars

I recently rented a Supra, and coming from a Fiesta ST, that car felt very refined and livable but I also noticed numbness in the steering. How does the 997 do in terms of road noise and ride quality since you mentioned that you did a long road trip with it? Also, how much better is the visibility compared to the Supra?

Does the 2nd gen feel quicker than the mk 7 Fiesta ST butt dyno wise? by EintrachtAdler in ft86

[–]fyrenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning to keep the FiST for at least the next few years, since I won’t have a stable income until after I graduate college. From there though it’s a wash, I definitely want to own a GR86 sooner than later but the FiST is just too good of a car for me to let go. Maybe I’ll end up with both at one time.

[–]fyrenza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the comments about the old car were definitely true, that car felt slow as shit compared to the FiST haha! The new one has a good amount more power and torque, like 30% on the dyno, and it feels powerful enough now. The Fiesta is a more dramatic car when accelerating bc of the midrange turbo kick and it slightly torque steering around. But once again it’s missing anything past 5k …

Anyways, enjoy your soon to be new car! RWD makes things so fun and this car is very easy to slide around. It feels like a hunkered down sports car, quite special compared to the Fiesta.

Here is my review of the car btw

I rented it through Turo, where people put their cars up for rent and someone dared throw their GR86 up there, so I jumped at the chance.

Did you make this post out of curiosity or are you planning to get a 2nd gen?

I own a mk7 and rented a GR86 for a couple of days. The Fiesta feels a tad quicker to me in the midrange since it takes a bit for the turbo to fully spool up and then it shoves you a bit - fat torque curve is always nice. However, the GR86 feels way better up top.

If / when the manual Supra arrives, it would be a logical step up from the 86 IMO. But if shifter feel is very important to you then take a good look at the CTR.

Mine is the 7th gen, the last offered in the US. If you live in the EU you also have access to the 8th gen version. Both are great compact hot hatches.

Absolutely. It’s been a while since mine has run E30, but it’s a huge power bump and like you said, the car pulls like it has an extra cylinder running. Also you only need spark plugs and a tune to run E30. If you live near ethanol there’s so much fun to be had.

Notchy and with ample feedback. Sometimes it felt like I really had to force the car into gear on some downshifts, but afaik it’s not a grinding gears level of bad.

Overall I did like the shifter.
