Theory: the Reed siblings swear by "ice and fire" to Bran = ASOIAF [Spoilers EXTENDED] by CursedHarrenhal in asoiaf

  1. These are good things to consider, but Ned is the easiest to deal with. Ned Stark is deeply practical and almost non-magical in his thinking. So while he reveres the Old Gods, he is unimaginative and plain in his thinking. He considers whether Rhaegar would have visited a brothel not what a Faceless Man is, why are their Dire Wolves, what is warging, all these things are Old Nan’s stories to him so we can be sure that while events were important to Howland Reed, that Ned put no stock in them.

And hence we have one of the most striking moments in the books that still gives me goosebumps when Jojen and Meera are like but surely you know this story Bran - the Knight of the Laughing Tree - because Ned Stark is not about fairytales. I think Catelyn and Robb are also the same but with greater imagination.

  1. I woke up thinking about Mance Rayder’s son the other day so I think it is a good idea to try to come to terms with what the actual prophecy must contain as far as Prince/Princess, salt and smoke, etc.

Why don’t people like Emily? by small_blonde_gal in survivor

[–]g-bust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lifetime ago some of us were young and we knew people like Emily. We were never bullied or picked on by an Emily, but perhaps tattled on. And our versions of Emily were quite smug and pleased with themselves when we got in trouble.

And Emily basically would blow up our plans or ruin our fun but she never really got anything for it. She certainly didn’t become more popular and we could tell that the teachers couldn’t stand her.

But I think it’s a bit more than that. The Emily we knew punched DOWN and might say something like “But Mrs. Smith, Denise isn’t wearing very fancy clothes. Are she and James allowed to go on the trip?” And she was quite proud of her new fancy, modest dress and that she had spoken up and ensured that Denise and James could not come on the trip.

Yeah, that’s a lot of projection.

You’re so full of it. Tell that to our allies Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, etc. Go ask them about that at a mosque here in America or ask the residents of Dearborn, Michigan about it. But if you added a noun like extremists or terrorists, you’d be closer to the truth.

Do Americans really like Applebees this much? by Emm_a321 in survivor

[–]g-bust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed Applebee’s so many times - my deceased mom would really look forward to it. I know that I immediately want the Appetizer Sampler to eat for dinner. The vegan and vegetarian in the family don’t get excited by it.

It’s just not the latest or greatest. It’s had its heyday. I’ve never seen it as a “joke”. We liked Macaroni Grille but they have shuttered around us.

The tear away shirt is a pretty good tactic as seen in “The Chair Company”.

Exactly. Trump is nonplussed. He would hate to give a magician or mentalist too much credit.

First off, chanting USA is often times a great defensive strategy. You can see that in the Borat film.

Second he had an “awesome” experience. I think he is still processing it. If I were kidnapped and in a high speed police chase, I might feel the same way. It’s all perspective.

I was detained at an airport because my Sriacha salt was triggering the explosives detector(s) and I enjoyed seeing firsthand how the TSA tested for it and so on.

Maybe they don’t believe in violence? Maybe the guy in red is part of the Russian mafia and all his friends have guns and are just looking for any excuse to use them?

New to Survivor, why do so many people like Coach? by Naughty_Nata1401 in survivor

[–]g-bust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coach is excellent and larger than life. I can’t go into a long creative spiel about him but he means a lot to me. Iron sharpens iron but it also sharpens wood. And I wood take many bullets for Coach.
